Fall 2021 Helena Hicks Emancipation School
October 24th, 11:30am: Honoring Baltimore’s living legend Helena Hicks, our fall lecture series features 40-minute presentations from the Johns Hopkins faculty. These lectures are digests of standing courses, manicured for our event. The mini-courses present key ideas, definitions, and debates in African American studies today. Registered participants of all three mini-courses will receive a certificate of completion from the JHU Helena Hicks Emancipation School. Register for the October 24th lecture here.
BHPLA Co-Sponsors Community Archives Workshop
October 8th, 1-4pm: The Billie Holiday Project co-hosted a Community Archives Workshop at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center for collectors of African American arts heritage. The event was held under the auspices of the JHU-University of Baltimore Community Archives Program, with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Baltimore National Heritage Area Foundation.

Neighborhood Oral History Project Launches at Jazz Concert
We invited elders from West Baltimore to share their stories from the civil rights era in Baltimore at our 3rd annual Billie Holiday Concert. The stories we collected will help us launch a larger project on the city's civil rights history.
