Creating Life on Life Impact

When I moved to Sandpoint in 2005, I was in a precarious place.  I was getting sober, working on basic Christian life skills, and trying my best to overcome many challenges.  The Lord had my heart even if I struggled to get it all right.  I knew that where God was going to place me in a community of believers was dependent on a few things.
  1. Authentic worship.
  2. A convicting message that moved me to change.
  3. The gifts of the spirit were in operation authentically.
  4. A mentor that would be willing to sow into my life.
With that in mind, I went looking for a church, meeting with Pastors, seeing where I felt I could fit.  At 4 churches, I was completely ignored, and several other churches were inviting but not a good fit.  I had a friend tell me to go to this little church on highway 95.  They were known for being charismatic.

In that process, I met with the Pastor, and he was willing to meet with me, hold me accountable, and challenge me to grow and pursue my calling.  I found that my character was lacking, I needed a lot of help, and I knew that in my brokenness, I needed help.  He chose to invest in me and gave me a great foundation for life-on-life mentoring and transformation.

No matter where you are in life, you have an impact.  Pastor Dean changed my life through his commitment to have grace for my shortcomings and hold me to my potential. For us to fulfill the great commission, we must learn to give of ourselves to others and be a person of impact in the lives of those around us.  Dean was what I needed, but other people have changed my life through how they lived and treated me.

No matter what you think your shortcomings are, you are called to give your life to those around you and have an impact.  I pray that as you look at your life and the people in your world, you choose to be a force of healthy change.  You don’t have to be a Pastor to mentor.  You don’t need a degree to lead.  You do need to be hearing the Lord and investing in people.

Take time to pray about who it is in your life that you should be investing in.  Consider who God highlights and invite them into your life.  Most of the greatest moments of transformation come when we see the love of God lived out, and the heart of God on display.
