We are running low on cloth masks. If you have school masks at home, please return them. Also, remember to pack extra masks in your child's backpack.
Friday Food Bags
We are starting our Friday Food Bag program again. This program provides nutritious food to students in need. If your child would benefit from weekend food, please email Becky.
This program is completely supported through donations from the community. If you would like to donate, please contact the office.
Learning During a Pandemic-Related School Closure or Classroom Quarantine.
If there is a need to quarantine more than 49% of the school population, the school will close and work will not be provided. The days will be made up in a manner that is similar to snow days.
In the event that your child’s class needs to quarantine, the school will provide access to work with the goal of limiting academic regression. Due to changes in remote learning attendance by the State of Vermont, this work is highly encouraged but optional. See below for more details.
Vision for Education
It is crucial that students have the opportunity to access learning experiences to maintain and reinforce previously taught skills.
Teachers will use a combination of hands-on and virtual modalities if a class is in quarantine. The primary platforms for content delivery will be Google Classroom and SeeSaw. Any additional online programs will be selected by Hartford School District’s teachers to ensure consistency across grade levels.
The School Day
The school day will run from 8:00 to 2:45 Monday to Friday. Teachers will facilitate classroom meetings and instruction during those hours. Teachers will also provide lessons and work that may be completed asynchronously. The recommended guidelines for student commitment each day are:
Pre-k: 20 minutes
Grades K-2 60 minutes
Grades 3-5 80 minutes
The guidelines above are meant to cover actual work time and do not include meetings, check-in time or instruction.
In the event of a classroom quarantine, students may complete one day’s worth of pre-assigned lessons on the first day of quarantine. Classroom teachers have previewed this work with their students. Teachers will start to follow their predetermined schedule on the second day of the quarantine period.
Attendance During Periods of Classroom Quarantine.
This year the State of Vermont only allows in-person days to count toward a child’s school attendance. If your child’s class needs to quarantine, they will receive a COVID-19 absence for each day. COVID-19 absence days are considered excused absences.
Lunch Procedures
We want to let you know that we have changed our lunch procedures to limit the possibility of exposure in the event that there is a case in the school. Students are now eating lunch in their classroom with their teacher. During lunch students are watching a short video or listening to a story to limit talking without masks on. We have also given the children a longer recess to provide them with more time to move around and socialize with peers.
School Directory
We will start to create the school directory during the first week of October. It will include your family's name, email, phone number and mailing address. If you do not want to have your family's information included, please email DBSOffice@hartfordschools.net.
SBAC Results
Students in grades 4 & 5 who attended DBS last year will receive their SBAC results today. If you do not see them, please contact the school.
If you need to make a transportation change, email DBSOffice@hartfordschools.net before noon OR call the school before 2:00.
