Hi <<First Name>>,

This past Tuesday was Mid-Autumn Festival, aka Moon Cake Festival! Chinese and Vietnamese friends in our communities celebrate this festival annually on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Lunar Calendar with a bright full moon at night. On this day, it is believed that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn!

This festival is also about gathering and giving thanks. I am glad that I was able to have my family and friends coming together and celebrate and give thanks for harmonious unions. To my family to yours, happy mid-autumn festival!

This week I want to let you know about two opportunities for you to have a say into the decisions made by your provincial government. You can participate in these virtual consultations from the comfort of your couch, chair, bed, or wherever you are reading this email.
Consultations for Budget 2022 – Open until September 30
Do you ever wonder how the provincial government prepares the annual budget? Part of the process is collecting input, ideas, and suggestions from people across B.C. Right now, we are collecting input for the 2022 budget.

What services do you and your family count on the most? What local priorities in Burnaby Deer Lake could benefit from provincial support? We want to hear these things and more.

Go to bcleg.ca/FGSbudget and participate by filling out a survey or submitting your comments in writing or as video or audio files. The consultation period closes on September 30 at 5pm. The input we receive will be included in a report to the Legislative Assembly in November.
Permanent paid sick leave consultation phase two – Open until October 25
Did you know around 50% of our BC workers do not have access to paid sick leave? You should have to choose between your health and your pay cheque. This is why our government has committed to developing a permanent paid sick leave program so that everyone is able to stay home when they are sick.

Through August and early September, your fellow communities have shared on how paid sick days would help them. Based on the input shared by over 26,000 people, we prepared three different options for three, five, or ten days of paid leave. Now we are looking for your feedback on which option you would like to see implemented. Have your say!

Go to engage.gov.bc.ca/paidsickleave to read about the different options and take the survey to tell us what you think. You have until October 25 to participate, and the new program will come into effect on January 1, 2022.
More children, youth will be able to get in the game

We know far too many young people have missed out on game time due to the pandemic. I’m thrilled to see that children and youth are now returning to the playing field to enjoy the physical and mental benefits sport has to offer.

Our government believes strongly in creating winning conditions that reduce financial barriers and open doors so that children across British Columbia have the opportunity to thrive. Thousands of children and youth will have the opportunity to be physically active through sport, thanks to the B.C. government’s historic investment in Sport BC. KidSport BC projects that have been supported to date by the Province’s $2.5-million investment.

We can't wait to have all the kids back on the field!
