Partnership Closes Gaps in Regional and Metro Clinical Trials
Bendigo Health has partnered with a new initiative, TrialHub, to close the gap between city and regional delivery and access to potentially life-saving cancer treatments. Based at Alfred Health, the Australian-first model TrialHub is working alongside regional and rural hospitals to identify gaps and opportunities to then work together in establishing, or improving, their own clinical trial centre.

Lung Foundation e-Modules
Lung Foundation Australia, in collaboration with Cancer Australia, has developed accredited clinical learning e-modules, based on Cancer Australia’s Investigating symptoms of lung cancer: a guide for all health professionals. The e-modules use clinical scenario-based learning to increase confidence among health professionals to recognise symptoms and signs of lung cancer, and support early and rapid referral of symptomatic patients into the multidisciplinary diagnostic pathway.
The modules have received accreditation from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), with health professionals able to gain accreditation of 40 RACGP CPD points.

Cancer Support Referral Resource for Health Professionals
Cancer Council’s nurses provide information and support to people affected by cancer. If you have a patient or carer that needs support, please fill in the referral form and one of our cancer nurses will contact them to see how we can help. In addition, please let them know that they, or anyone affected by cancer can call our nurses on 13 11 20 (cost of a local call), Monday to Friday, 9-5pm.

New State-wide Service – MRI-guided radiation therapy at Austin Health
Victorian’s with cancer can now be referred to the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre at Austin Health for MRI-guided radiation therapy, even if they receive cancer treatment elsewhere. This service is ideal for cancers that are difficult to treat due to anatomical changes or poor visibility. It can target a tumour clearly and avoid healthy tissue to tailor treatment to patients in real-time.

MRFF - Australian Brain Cancer Mission – 2021 GBM AGILE Grant Opportunity
The objective of this grant is to improve outcomes for Australians diagnosed with brain cancer (specifically glioblastoma multiforme) by leading, co-ordinating and managing the implementation and evaluation of the Australian arm of the Glioblastoma Adaptive Global Innovative Learning Environment (GBM AGILE) clinical trial.
This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and is valued at up to $12million over four years, Minimum data closes 15 February 2022 and Applications close 2 March 2022.
