Dear <<First Name>>,

Tuesday, September 28, 2021
Join Civitas on Saturday, October 16 for a Cherokee Street Tour (& Lunch!)
We have a very exciting morning planned for Saturday, October 16 from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm. Randy Vines, co-owner (with his twin brother, Jeff) of StL Style House is going to lead Civitas students on a tour of the eclectic, vibrant Cherokee Street in south St. Louis. Known for decades for its numerous Latinx bakeries and restaurants and an impressive row of antique stores, Cherokee offers many additional reasons to visit (and live!) there. Randy, a frequent and gracious tour guide of Cherokee, will share his knowledge and love of the area as a business owner; he also has community organizers, entrepreneurs, and others with a passion for Cherokee Street who plan to chat with us during our tour, including:

Ley Malone--career entrepreneur
Matt Brinkmann--Pianos for People organizer
Pacia Anderson--Love Bank Park creator and promoter
Minerva Lopez--Hispanic community leader
Kaveh Razani--Art Place owner and artist promoter
And more!

We will break for lunch about 11:30 at Taqueria El Bronco (click here for menu). Lunch for all participants will be covered by Civitas, so no attendance prizes for this event.

The tour will begin at 10:00 am at StL Style House (northeast corner of South Compton Ave. and Cherokee St. at 3159 Cherokee St., St. Louis, 63118) and end about 1:30 pm at StL Style House. Parking is usually pretty plentiful on side streets nearby.

Click here to sign up! Space will be limited.
(As a follow-up to the Cherokee Street tour, Parkway West senior and Civitas intern, Santiago Lugo Gutierrez will share his dynamic presentation, "Understanding Latinx & Latin-American Racial and Ethnic Differences" on Saturday, November 6. Stay tuned for details!)
Country Draft on
Saturday, October 9th at Webster University
Since school started a little later this year, we decided to give Model UN participants an extra week to come up with countries. We will meet in an exciting new location on the Webster University campus! (Browning Building above and Map below)
The Country Draft will be Saturday, October 9 from 9:30 am-11:30 am.

School groups need at least one person to attend the country draft with a list of countries that represents all members of the group (and a few reserve countries). EVERYONE FROM YOUR GROUP IS WELCOME TO ATTEND THE DRAFT!!
Before drafting countries Webster University Professor of International Relations,  Dr. Warren Rosenblum, will highlight concerns happening in the world that may inspire resolutions for Model UN.

Teachers are welcome, too.

Due to a large interest in morning options, we have eliminated the afternoon session on Nov. 20 and added an additional, in-person (also at Webster University) session on Sat., Dec. 11. Please let us know which Model UN session your school plans to attend before the country draft date. Schools can split their groups into two or three sessions, if interested.
Session choices:
Model UN Session A (9:00 am-12:00 pm) on Saturday, November 20 at Webster University (same location as country draft).
Model UN Session B (Canceled)
Model UN Session C (9:00 am-12:00 pm) on Saturday, December 4, via ZOOM.
Model UN Session D (9:00 am-12:00 pm) on Saturday, December 11 at Webster University.

Email Stephanie your session date preference and number of participants as soon as possible: gavinstephanie89@gmail.com
Participating on your own for Model UN? Please sign up to attend the country draft.
Snacks will be provided and a drawing will be held for attendance prizes at the draft.

MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE DRAFT AND IN-PERSON MUN SESSIONS.
Address of Webster University:
