Friends of Nevern Castle
Dear Friend of Nevern Castle,
Welcome to our first newsletter for supporters and volunteers.
Radio item. Did you hear Tomos Jones, Community Archaeologist with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, speaking about Nevern Castle on BBC Radio Wales? If not, you can catch up here – the section about Nevern Castle is 21 minutes 35 seconds in and is well worth listening to:
BBC Radio Wales - Country Focus, A Green Tour and Caterpillars
Castle interpretation plan. One of our main activities at present is reconsidering the way the site is presented to the public, including signage, interpretation boards, website, leaflets etc. Our next meeting, to discuss progress so far and priorities for what we want to communicate, will be on Wednesday 29th September at 7:30 pm and will be held online using Zoom. Please reply if you would like to come and we will send you a link.
Working party. We are very aware that the undergrowth is increasing at the site, in some places with potential to compromise the archaeological remains and in others making it difficult to properly appreciate the castle. Work needs to be done to keep the site in trim. If you would like to volunteer for an occasional working party to help with this, please reply to let us know, and we will be in touch.
Guided tour. Many of you came to the Nevern Castle Barbecue on 30th August, where we raised the idea of a guided tour of the Castle. If you would like a guided tour, please reply to let us know. We are thinking of organising a tour on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Many thanks for your interest in Nevern Castle.
Best wishes,
Katharine Whitehead
