Monday 27th September 2021

Kia ora Bradford Whānau,

This time last week we were hoping for a 4pm announcement that we could return to Level 1 but alas that was not meant to be ... yet.   It is very difficult for organisers of events around the country to forward plan and cover all eventualities; sometimes hard calls just have to be made.  Polyfest is one of these hard calls.  We have been advised that this year is an online performance with very limited numbers able to perform.  The limit on gathering numbers means that when the organisers /crew are taken into account at the venue only part of both our Junior and Senior Polyfest groups would be able to perform.  Whilst we fully understand why, this doesn't sit well with our value of He waka eke noa, so we have made the difficult decision not to perform at Polyfest this year.  However, as the children have been working incredibly hard on their Kapahaka items we will still showcase these for whānau at our end of year prizegiving at KVC on Monday 13th December.

We seemed to be on the opposite week of the expected Kaan's lunches last week, but the children still really enjoyed the menu with the meatball sub and chicken wrap being tied for the first place favourite.  It is also great to see fresh fruit being devoured daily from the fruit bowls in class;  the super juicy Gisborne oranges were a real hit on Friday!   The Kaan's menu for this week is detailed below.

A reminder that Scarlett Hagen, (the Former Junior World Champion, who helped us design the Bradford School Bike Track) is running a series of Mountain Bike classes for 8-11 year olds during Bike Week in the October school holidays.  Each day from 9am-1pm sessions are held on different bike tracks around Dunedin.  Bradford School features in Bike Week on Monday 11 October.  If your child would like to attend any of the sessions then pre-booking is a must as places are limited.  Visit https://bikeschool.co.nz/bookings/mtb-kids/  for more information.

All the very best for a safe and happy holiday at the end of this week whānau. At Alert Level 2 we can get out and about a bit more than last time we were all at home together - hopefully the weather will play ball too!

Kia mau menemene - keep smiling,
Emma and the Bradford Team
Week 10
Room 5 have been investigating pouwhenua (pou) which are carved wooden posts of significance to Māori used to mark territorial boundaries or places of importance.
They have created their own pou to represent their interests and strengths.   These beautiful artworks will be available to view in Room 3 when we reach Alert Level 1.

FINAL ORDERS WILL CLOSE THIS WEDNESDAY SO WE CAN SEND AWAY PLEASE
With the arrival of some warmer weather, we are going to be purchasing some UV Guard SPF 50+ sunscreen for school. This is 4 hours water resistant and is rated the No. 1 sunscreen tested by Consumer NZ.  With one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the World (82 000 per year), we really encourage caregivers to get into the habit of  putting sunscreen on their child daily in the mornings.  The Be Wise Skinwise principle advocates for three applications per day - a habit for life that saves lives!   As part of our school order we are able to offer this same sunscreen to whānau at a great price. Every unit sold earns a donation towards our school.  Please email your child's class teacher if you would like an order form sent home.
DYSLEXIA PARENT INFORMATION EVENING POSTPONED UNTIL TERM 4

Sadly swimming is now finished and we are unable to re-book for next term due to Moana Pool's existing bookings.  Hopefully next year will work out for us.
