The Cello Museum Weekly Newsletter

Volume II | Number 39 | 25 September 2021

Greetings, cello friends!

The party continues here at the Cello Museum...

Through October, the Cello Museum will celebrate our first year of being your online compendium of the cello, including articles, digital exhibitions, related images, components, and accessories.

Our featured article this week takes a brief walk down memory lane and shares how you can become one of the lucky individuals to receive birthday presents from the Cello Museum: a selection of limited-edition products from our special line. You can also explore our collection of
online concerts and events.

Our limited edition Cello Museum first anniversary items are now available in our Museum Shop. Be sure to pick them up before they are gone.

Our current exhibition, Innovations in Cello-Making Materials will be featured through the end of October. If you thought Steven Sharp Nelson's titanium cello was awesome (hat tip to The Piano Guys), you won't want to miss learning more about Jared Harris' steel cello.

We hope you are enjoying our Cello Birthdays series. These posts celebrate cellists, composers, luthiers, and others with strong ties to the cello world.

Mark your calendar (and check your clock)
our September Cello Book Club will meet Sunday, 26 September.

Dr. Leonovich continues his work on David Popper and invites you to check out his latest project.

Finally, make sure to read the note from our curator, Dr. Brenda Neece.

Thank you for your ongoing support of The Cello Museum. Enjoy this week's content!

Cello Birthdays
Our Cello Birthdays series now lives on our website and recognizes those who are (or have been) part of the cello world, including cellists, composers of cello music, cello makers, and authors of cello books.

Let us know about any birthdays we should consider adding to our series.

Please keep in mind that we highlight those where we can find media (videos, photos, audio recordings) that we can share online.
September Book Club
Our September Book Club meeting is tomorrow! (Or today, depending on when you are checking your email...)

This month, our featured selection is Mellow Cello: A Collection of Short Stories for Cellists. We are excited that author (and cellist) Gill Tennant will join the Zoom discussion on 26 September 2021 at 7 PM London / 2 PM New York / 11 AM Los Angeles.

In addition to reading the book, be sure to check out our review. Even if you (ahem) haven't finished reading the book, you can still join the conversation; just sign up for the (separate) book club mailing list to receive the zoom link.
Updates from Dr. Leonovich
Dr. Leonovich has been very busy with the works of David Popper - so much so, that he is now one of the managers of the David Popper website, davidpopper.org.

Read his latest contribution on the Drei Stücke.
Curator's Note
See you soon?

I've really enjoyed the Cello Museum Cello Book Club meetings this year. Our next event is Sunday, September 26 at 2 PM New York time (7 PM London / 11 AM Los Angeles).

I've loved meeting all of our authors, and I got an extra, sneak-preview session with this month's author
all the way from Orkney  earlier this week! I'm really excited about this meeting, so please come online and join the conversation with author and cellist Gill Tennant.

Autumn is here in my corner of the world, and I’m looking forward to watching the change of seasons. It makes me think of the beginning of the school year when I was a kid with the excitement of new classes, new books, and new music. At the Cello Museum, it’s almost time for our next exhibition! More on that soon.

I’m enjoying our birthday celebrations here and hope that you enter for a chance to win one of our prizes if you haven’t already done so. The prizes just got better with a generous donation from author (and musician) Leora O’Carroll.

We’ve got so many exciting things in the works
stay tuned!

Please stay well and keep in touch. I always love to hear from you.
