We are holding our first regular meeting of Brighton and Hove Branch of the BCSS on this coming Thursday 30th September.  This will be at our usual meeting place (The Parish center, South Street, Portslade Village, Portslade, East Sussex, BN41 2LE.) commencing at 7.30pm.

This will not be our AGM but we do have a few items to discuss.

We are holding a plant sale and general social evening for all members and friends. The branch will not be asking for any commission on sales.  If you have plants for sale please bring them along and if you have a couple of easily transportable tables please bring them along as well.   It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible so that we can catch up after a long period of absence.   We will have a number of books for sale and also some free items from Terry Smale's collection.  I hope also the Brighton branch library will be available.
Giant Ferocatus repotted.
I beleive I have already related the acquisition of this giant Ferocactus peninsulae.  With the help of Vicky Davies and Graham Evans this has now been repotted.  It weighs over 2.5 hundredweight so this was a tricky task.   It is now looking good in its new larger pot and is currently in full flower. (see below)
The Brian Robinson sale
Last weekend we attended the sale of the collection of the late Brian Robinson in Redditch.  There were 350 lots in the auction including many large plants particularly of Copiapoa and Ferocactus.  We came back with a car full and this week have been repotting them.  Amongst the most magnificent was this huge plant of Ferocactus rectispinus with 8" long spines.
