We celebrated our 10th season aboard Sailboat BOB with many wonderful friends, new and returning (note: did not say "old"). A HUGE THANK YOU to the amazing groups that shared the best of Alaska with us!
Our new boat guitar got quite a workout. We were so lucky to have several musicians aboard, and had quite a few sing-alongs in some incredible venues.
Photo highlights from the summer
Lots of really incredible wildlife encounters including wolves in Glacier Bay, baby oystercatchers, dancing bears, and feeding whales. It was even better with a new telephoto lens (thank you for making that possible Barbara Eddy). Our "best of" album is up on Google Photos.
A very special thank you goes to Dave and Joanna - who helped us out when our starter failed waaaaay up in Glacier Bay. Dave is a world sailor and Joanna is world-class crew. We tacked and jibed for two straight days from 80 miles up Tarr Inlet to Bartlett Cove without a motor, and their unfailing humor and skillful sailing made what could have been a difficult sail into an enjoyable and safe voyage. We replaced the starter in Hoonah, and were underway without losing a day! Note the post-kiss smile on Dave's face. Awww.
This week we submitted a bunch of photos taken of whale tails and orca fins to Happy Whale, and we are always thrilled to get them identified. One whale in Chatham Strait had not been encountered before. We aren't holding our breath, but as of now it is new to science! We would love to name this whale. To do so, it takes a donation to whale conservation. Please let us know if you would like to help,
