Call for applicants to lead the Sheep Sustainability Framework (SSF)

Fancy a leadership role? Or know someone who would? Look no further. 

The Sheep Sustainability Framework Steering Group is looking for a new Chair to lead and deliver an impactful SSF for the next two years.

The new Chair will ideally possess:
  • strong knowledge of ag & commercial aspects of sheep production
  • familiarity with the present industry challenges and opportunities 
  • strong connections and respect within the sector
  • effective communication skills – articulate, an excellent listener
  • proven ability in disseminating and broadcasting information

The SSF measures and tracks industry performance against key priorities and helps better understand opportunities, challenges, and impacts in key areas such as animal care, the environment, economic resilience, and people and community.

Will You be a Speaker at the Global Sheep Forum – Next Generation Leadership? 

SPA is excited to be hosting the Global Sheep Forum – Next Generation Leadership in October.

The Global Sheep Forum will focus on:

  • Building capacity and capability in the next generation of sheep farmers
  • Identifying future industry leaders and helping them grow
  • Establish platforms for collaboration on common challenges
  • Build global networks to exchange knowledge and experiences 

Will You be a Speaker at the Next Generation Forum?
SPA invites speakers to submit talks around the theme of leadership for the sheep industry, for both this event and further workshops later in the year. Topics will include:

  • Professional development and leadership
  • Technical on-farm innovation and information

We strongly encourage presenters to submit talks ASAP as we finalise the program through September.

Spots Saved for Sheep Producers in National Mentoring Program - Get in Quickly

Connect, learn and grow your business as a mentee or a mentor through the Future Drought Fund’s Drought Resilience Leaders Mentoring Program.  

The program matches farmers with mentors from within industry. The mentor and mentee will share knowledge, experience, and innovation to apply on farm or in their involvement in agriculture.  

Access information, resources, and training including:
  • business and succession planning
  • being a leader within your community
  • managing change to build your business
  • how to grow your career in agriculture
  • health and well-being, and more 
Be part of a national network of mentors and mentees, sharing knowledge and learning from others to support and strengthen the agriculture sector and regional Australia. The program is seeking applications for both mentors and mentees. 

The program has now been extended to all involved within agriculture.

Seeking Sheep Mentees:

•  A farmer or someone involved in the agriculture sector
• Has a personal or professional goal to achieve with guidance from a mentor
• Reside in or have links to an agriculture-based community

Sheep Industry Mentors - Sharing with the Next Generation

The Drought Resilience Leaders Mentoring Program matches each mentee with a mentor to discuss, collaborate, and share knowledge and experience about their industry, how to progress and build stronger businesses.

  • The program is flexible and self-directed.
  • Mentors and mentees meet at a time that suits them
  • Time commitment of 1 - 3 hours a month, 6 individual sessions

The program offers information, resources and training for both mentors and mentees. There will also be access to webinars on topics to help on-farm and in mentoring.

Seeking Sheep Mentors:

• A farmer, drought or climate specialist or other industry stakeholders
• Passionate about minimising the impacts of drought
• Willing to share their knowledge and support other farmers

Breeding Leadership 2022

 

Breeding Leadership is a national program for young people in all facets of the wool industry and aims to develop the leadership and professional skills of young people involved in the wool industry.

The five day program covers a range of topics including:

  • strategy (understanding your business and industry),
  • understanding yourself (personality typing),
  • working in teams (accountability, communicating expectations, decision making)
  • the future (entrepreneurship, innovation and managing change). 

Program funded by AWI and delivered by Pinion Advisory.
