UPDATE FROM HARRIET ROBERTS, OPERATIONS & PROJECTS MANAGER, STANLEY GRANGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION - 27 September 2021
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STANLEY GRANGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

We are looking forward to the official reopening of the Stanley Grange Community Hall and Kitchen this week and welcoming residents, friends, families and VIP guests with our partners, Future Directions. We are busy making scarecrows to decorate the grounds with some help from a team of community artists and volunteers, led by Nudrat Mughal from Action Factory. They will be working around the grounds on Thursday and Friday morning. John Slater from Eco Structures is making the scarecrow frames which Ben from the Garden Centre will be putting into position ready for them to be dressed.

TIMED ENTRY TICKETS

Our Covid risk assessment allows for a small, restricted number of people in the community hall so there will be timed entry slots for everyone to come at different intervals. Tickets, like the one above, will be sent out this week so that all residents and staff get the opportunity to take part in some way. A list of the times allocated and the guest list will also be on the noticeboard in the foyer.  Official speeches and ceremonies with our VIPs will take place between 3-4pm, with a less formal photo opportunity, party music and refreshments after that.

PREPARATIONS IN FULL SWING

There’s lots more to do in the meantime, Plaques and signs have been ordered and need to be put up. Chris Wood from the Friends and Family Forum has organised a giant cake to feed 70 people.

Kevin is rehearsing the band to play a couple of songs for our Harvest Festival with Rev Hannah. We would be grateful for donations of jars, tins and packets for our Foodbank collection and display.

The floor in the hall and foyer has been cleaned and polished and all the furniture needs to go back in place. Les has been helping to build some flat pack furniture, a mobile noticeboard and coat and hat stands. We are visiting St Joseph’s RC Primary School, Brindle where children will be recording a special Happy Birthday message for us to show on the screen. Helping Hands at Home are coming at 8am on Tuesday to give the kitchen a deep clean ready for the big day. We will have a display of our archive story boards and photos. The official photographer on the day will be Paul Adams.

PARKING AND SAFETY DETAILS

Visitors will be able to use the parking area at the front of the Plant Centre. We will open the gates but you might need an umbrella. Turn right to make your way back to the main entrance on foot via the main road. Please do not go through the plant centre or workshop. Visitors will register on arrival in the community hall where you will need to take an LFT test, observe social distancing and wear a face mask at all times.

A full briefing note for volunteers and staff involved will be sent out in the next couple of days. Thanks for all your help! I hope the weather improves and look forward to seeing you on Friday.
