Year 10 Personal Development Programme
Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to outline the content of the College’s current Personal Development Programme for Year 10

In order to deliver all aspects of this curriculum, including the government’s new Sex and Relationships Education programme, we will be continuing with our collapsed curriculum days. On these days, students will take part in lessons and activities with both their tutors and external experts.  Careers provision and guidance will also be incorporated into these programmes.  A brief summary of the content to be covered can be found below and further details about our recently updated Sex and Relationships policy can be found on our website.  We will keep you informed of any major changes to the delivery of Personal Development as all guest speakers and external providers will only be permitted following the most up to date guidance on the pandemic from the government.

Day 1- 12.10.21- British Citizenship
  • UK Democracy-this session will expand on their previous knowledge where they will vote for their tutor representatives and chosen charities.
  • UK Legal System.
  • Civil and Criminal Law
Day 2- 1.12.21- Keeping Yourself and Others Safe
  • Learning Conference
  • Careers
  • Financial Awareness

Day 3- 10.2.22- Careers and Life Skills

  • Financial Awareness
  • ‘Raise Your Game’ session

Day 4- 29.3.22- Relationships

There will also be a careers session.
Please note that while never recommended, we do appreciate that in some extreme circumstances it may be appropriate for you to request withdrawal of your son/daughter from any sessions covering sex. This is possible up until 3 full terms before they turn 16.  After this point, your child can make the decision about participating.   Please refer to our Sex and Relationships Education policy found on our website for more information. Students who are withdrawn from the programme will need to still come to College.

Day 5- 18.5.22- Diversity and Faith
  • Faiths in the UK
  • Expectations of behaviour and attitudes on work experience

Day 6- 14.7.22- Physical and Mental Health
This will be our Sports Day.  Students will all take part in one activity in the morning, with the chance to win points for their teams, and take part in or support the athletics events in the afternoon.  Alongside this, students will also have a session on healthy lifestyles and the effects of a poor diet.

The school timings remain the same and students should wear their normal school uniform and bring their normal equipment with the exception of Day 6.

If you have any questions about the arrangements, please contact me on 01752 201020 or via email at j.harris@sjhcsc.co.uk

Yours faithfully
