Job Description

Ring of Keys Coalition, Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven, artist service organization that fosters community and visibility for musical theatre artists - onstage and off - who self-identify as queer women, transgender, and gender non-conforming artists.

ABOUT the Executive Director Role:
Ring of Keys seeks a passionate and tenacious leader who brings with them a strong nonprofit work experience, a passion for queer representation, and fundraising skills to help guide the organization into its next chapter. 

The Ring of Keys Executive Director oversees, manages and directs the day-to-day functions and operations of the organization and upholds the organizational ethos, mission and systems. This role also ensures a strong communal care for the Keys community, while maintaining the nonprofit operations in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

The Executive Director is also responsible for shaping the growth and overall long-term strategic plan for Ring of Keys to ensure the organization’s success and financial sustainability.


ABOUT Ring of Keys:
Ring of Keys is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven, artist service organization that fosters community and visibility for musical theatre artists - onstage and off - who self-identify as queer women, transgender, and gender non-conforming artists.

Ring of Keys was co-founded by our current Founding Executive Director 3.5 years ago and has grown to represent a network of 500+ artists in 40+ cities throughout the United States, Canada, and the U.K.

Our primary resource is our Member Directory, located on our website. With the desire to celebrate queerness, inclusivity, and increase authentic representation, our Directory functions as a bridge between casting and queerness and is the only resource of its kind that exists. Ring of Keys is offering our industry an invaluable problem-solving resource, and it is transforming the musical theatre industry. 


Key Characteristics & Qualifications:
  • Experience in nonprofit management 
  • Unapologetic passion for the representation of queer artists
  • Strong leadership skills: the ability to be both a team player and a self-starter
  • Experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Resilience toward negotiating the varying needs of an intergenerational community that is a diversity of identities
  • Receptive to feedback and listening, and can execute decision-making toward a consensus
Compensation:
This is a contract position for FY21, with the opportunity to develop (with approval by The Board) a part-time salary in FY22. (Fiscal year end: December 31st.) Additionally, the Board of Directors will operate as a Working Board in the interim first year to assist this role.

  • Majority remote work

KEY Responsibilities:
  • Oversee, plan, develop, organize, manage and guide all of the day-to-day functions and operations of the organization
  • Develop and implement organizational systems and procedures
  • Serve as the primary ambassador for the organization and maintain a positive, professional reputation representing RoK to stakeholders; including but not limited to: donors, Key members, Committee Members, community partners, industry leaders, social media, and local, regional and national media
  • Lead the current team of 13 volunteers (Social Media, Events Programming, Web, Development & Fundraising, Consultancy, City Ambassadors) and facilitate delegation of tasks to team members
  • Establish rapport in and among volunteers, Committees, Advisory Council, and Board of Directors to demonstrate, encourage and promote a spirit of teamwork and cooperation amongst the teams
  • Cultivate new relationships and maintain existing relationships with industry leaders and community partners
  • Maintain an anti-racist organization that centers our mission of community and visibility of queer women, trans, and gender-nonconforming artists in musical theatre. 
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and legal requirements governing as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Financial: 
(10% of role; high priority)
  • Provide overall fiscal responsibility for the approved budget and execute financial reporting to the Board of Director
  • Collaborate with The Board to develop and fiscally manage the annual budget
  • Ensure the financial health and values-based growth of the organization
  • Embrace future fiscal responsibilities as needed (ie: new hires)
  • Assist the Board Treasurer in Bookkeeping for the organization
Board Management:
(10% of role)
  • Engage the Board toward fundraising goals; assist in and procure Board growth
  • Report to all quarterly Board meetings
  • Support operations of the Board, facilitate communications between the Board and volunteer team 
Marketing:
(20% of role)
  • Oversee strategic social media campaigns that maximize the organizational ethos and mission and manage Social Media team to execute
  • Collaborate with the Working Board Secretary in Mailchimp marketing activities, including monthly newsletter, announcements, and other PR
  • Oversee the Web Manager and Dev team to execute website content, fix glitches and bugs, and ongoing site development of our custom-coded CMS site
Community Engagement:
(20% of role)
  • Lead Monthly Office Hour meetings for Keys community
  • Collaborate with and advise Committees 
  • Develop and maintain new and existing Community Partnerships that support the needs of the community
Fundraising & Development:
(20% of role; high priority)
  • Collaborate with our fundraising consultant on grant research and grantwriting
  • Cultivate and maintain donor relationships
  • Oversee donor strategies in collaboration with the Development team 
Programming & Operations: 
(20% of role)
  • Guide and execute the programmatic and operational decisions of the organization with assistance from the team, Board, and Keys community
  • Oversee the Workshop Programming and collaborate with the Events team to create, execute, facilitate partnerships, and produce
  • Collaborate with the Working Board Chair on Artistic Producing; including, but not limited to, the Queering the Canon annual concert series initiative
 
GOALS for the Executive Director:
  • Will take initiative to bring new systems and strategies to the organization, while maintaining a sensitivity toward the existing structure 
  • Will identify and develop a plan of corrections for organizational improvement areas
  • Will sustain the mission as an artist service organization and network
  • Will cultivate new donor relationships toward a robust fundraising plan and new revenue streams
