Year 9 Personal Development Programme
Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to outline the content of the College’s current Personal Development Programme for Year 9.

In order to deliver all aspects of this curriculum, including the government’s new Sex and Relationships Education programme, we will be continuing with our collapsed curriculum days. On these days, students will take part in lessons and activities with both their tutors and external experts.  Careers provision and guidance will also be incorporated into these programmes.  A brief summary of the content to be covered can be found below and further details about our recently updated Sex and Relationships policy can be found on our website.  We will keep you informed of any major changes to the delivery of Personal Development as all guest speakers and external providers will only be permitted following the most up to date guidance on the pandemic from the government.

Day 1- 12.10.21- British Citizenship
  • Learning Conference- Introduction to KS4
  • UK Democracy- expanding on previous learning and applying this to voting for tutor representatives and chosen charity.

Day 4- 29.3.22- Relationships
Students will attend a careers session in the morning but then they will have their first introduction to sexual relationships.  All content will be delivered by the Zone. They will cover their choices in relationships and sex, peer pressure.
Please note that while never recommended, we do appreciate that in some extreme circumstances it may be appropriate for you to request withdrawal of your son/daughter from any sessions covering sex. This is possible up until 3 full terms before they turn 16.  After this point, your child can make the decision about participating.   Please refer to our Sex and Relationships Education policy found on our website for more information. Students who are withdrawn from the programme will need to still come to College.

Day 5- 18.5.22- Diversity and Faith
  • Pride and Pride History.
  • Gender vs Sex debate.
  • Being an ally.

Day 6- 14.7.22- Physical and Mental Health
This will be our Sports Day.  Students will all take part in one activity in the morning, with the chance to win points for their teams, and take part in, or support, the athletics events in the afternoon.  Alongside this, students will also have a session on overall mental and physical health and the importance of healthy eating.

The school timings remain the same and students should wear their normal school uniform and bring their normal equipment with the exception of Day 6.
