Take Action to Support Infrastructure and Reconciliation Packages

This is a critical week for ensuring adequate funding for modernizing the grid across the U.S. We encourage the Grid Forward community to send messages into any Senate and House offices that you work with and/or who seem appropriate, especially if they are on the Senate Energy & Natural Resources committee and the House Energy & Commerce committee. We have contacts into almost all Western state House and Senate offices, especially if they are on an energy related committee, so let us know if you need any contacts.

Rescheduled: Our GridFWD Main Event is Moving to the Spring

After careful consideration, we have decided that in order to have our main event anywhere near the level and quality we always demand that we will be moving it from the planned date of early November to the spring of 2022. The good news with this is that you have another window of opportunity to submit topics for the agenda, now open through October 8.

Watch for Virtual Event in November in place of GridFWD

For those of you still itching to gather with our community, we are planning a shorter virtual gathering this fall. We are not sure on exact agenda, but it will likely be a combination of updates on the federal policy front and developments of regional grid modernization actives and developments. The date will likely be in early November, so stay tuned for further details.

New Podcast on Microsoft's Plan to be Carbon Negative by 2030

In this session we talk with Brian Janous, General Manager of Energy and Renewables at Microsoft on the role of their partners (including utilities), what they are learning along the way, and how they believe they can meet their significant commitments.

Microsoft ramped up its commitment earlier this year to 100% clean energy for the entire reach of its company, 100% of the time, by 2030. That is certainly an ambitious target and meeting it will bring a diversity of lessons for the industry along the way.

Listen into the discussion to find out more about Microsoft's plan of action.

Bonneville Power Administration Joins the Western EIM

Bonneville Power Administration made its final close out record of decision on joining the western EIM. Administer John Hairston said, “Preparing to join the EIM is part of Bonneville’s broader grid modernization program, a key initiative of our strategic plan to improve reliability, maximize the value of federal hydropower and transmission assets, and maintain the agency's competitive edge in the evolving marketplace.

For Bonneville, and I hope for our customers and other partners, this decision marks an important milestone in market advancement for the Northwest.
