Museum Message

Greetings! You'll be seeing a few new faces around the museum in the coming months, myself included. My name is Rachelle Diaz and I have recently joined the Roswell Museum and Art Center as Public Programs Manager. I'm excited to bring a 20-year background in marketing and cultural event production to the team.

We have some great events coming up for creatives of all kinds plus our new Planetarium schedule for October. And don't forget, you only have a few more days to view Visitation, new work by RAiR artist Mikayla Patton.

Finally, on behalf of all of us at the museum, I wanted to extend sincere gratitude to all who attended our Fiesta on the Patio fundraiser on September 24. Thanks to your generosity, the evening was a tremendous success! For those who missed out on this fun-filled affair, we have our Holiday Artisan Market coming up in December. Stay tuned for announcements about the VIP Preview Party, Silent Auction event and more.

Yours in creativity,

RACHELLE DIAZ

Upcoming Exhibition

Resonance
Work by RAiR artist Terri Rolland

October 23, 2021 - January 2, 2022
Artist Lecture: Friday, October 22, 5:30pm
Opening Reception: Friday, October 22, 6-7pm

Terri Rolland’s paintings are rooted in the energy of the earthly world. She is concerned with the places where land and sky meet, and the color, temperature and vibration found there. Visual meets perceptual: time of day, light, heat, wind, moisture, silence, smells and sounds are as important as what is seen and considered known. Accordingly, she reduces a painting to its three most elemental colors and shapes to best honor the essence of a place in time, pared down to a relationship and vibration that is material and subtle. Those three elements create an energetic resonance, not unlike what a musical chord creates. Rolland uses a process of layering several thin coats of clay paint to create a matte luminosity of surface and color that is both active and still. The colors exemplify energy and life forces. The shapes ground us, and slightly identify where we are without too much fuss. The works have a gravity of purpose but also possess a playful simplicity. Rolland believes that abstraction allows nonsense and transcendence to live rightfully together in a painting, as it does in the off-kilter world we inhabit.
