CEO's Overview

This month we have been celebrating the amazing contributions our staff and Board Directors make to the lives of people with disability.

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the WA Disability Support Awards hosted by NDS. The awards recognise and celebrate those in the disability sector that go above and beyond to support people with disabilities.

I am very proud to announce Sharron Roussety from our Cannington office was a finalist in the category of “Excellence in Supporting Employment Opportunities” Award.

Sharon was recognised for her outstanding efforts to create sustainable employment opportunities through a collaboration with Officeworks. This project has led to the employment of 18 people with disability in Officeworks since 2019 and is a great example of how making changes to the recruitment process, implementing job modifications and adapting training to meet the needs of our customers can play in creating inclusive and diverse workplaces.

This project has been a team effort with Employment Coordinators across our Disability Employment Services all working together to provide this opportunity to their customers. However, it was Sharon’s ability to form a connection with Officeworks and drive this project forward that enabled this opportunity in the first place. Furthermore, three customers supported her nomination because of the support she had provided them, which led to them feeling capable, confident and supported in their role.

Geoff Hall, Board Director and Chair of the Finance Committee was also recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Australian Community, receiving a certificate from the Commonwealth Bank Not-for-Profit Treasurers Award.

Geoff has been instrumental in assisting Essential Personnel to implement our financial reporting framework and management systems. Thank you Geoff for all that you do for us at Essential Personnel.

Finance

Every Winter is like a busy golden harvest season for the Finance team. We prepare the budget, create our plans, draft the annual financial report and count the pleasing outcomes for our organisation, like picking beautiful fruits and crops. Thanks to our hard-working staff, our amazing customers and the stakeholders that we work with, we've had another great financial year!

Last month we had auditors conduct our annual financial auditing, they were very satisfied with our accounting systems and compliance.

Heading through Spring, the Finance Team has also been working with our Operations Team to improve various processes, including pay cycle optimisation and Xero Timesheet system introduction.

There are still many more exciting things on the horizon, and keep an eye out for our 2020/21 Annual Report coming soon.

Warm regards,
Marian Zhao
Finance Manager

Our Northam Lifestyles team love working with Bruce and Susan, supporting them as they continue to be active members of their community. Recently they submitted entries for the Northam Agricultural Show. Bruce came 1st with his floral arrangement and Susan came 3rd with her homegrown spinach.

Congratulations to them both! 🥳 💐 🌱

Ros puts some pizza in the oven
This is Roslyn, who our staff have supported along her journey to greater independence. Roslyn is now enjoying living in her own home, and being able to do her own washing and dishes.

Here she is putting her homemade pizza in the oven. Roslyn says that she is so happy living independently, and it is great to get away from Mum and Dad, doing things for herself!! 😊

Our customers are achieving their goals! 😊
