Grow Your Own Kai

How good has our huarere (weather) been?

Spring is a magnificent time to mahi māra (to garden) and with the holidays it’s also a great way to connect our whānau with our environment, plant some of your whānau’s favourite fruits and vegetables and play with our tamariki in the dirt while also learning about Papatūānuku. If we care for Papatūānuki the way we care for ourselves we can nurture and grow together!
Here at Nuku Ora we want to encourage and support an interactive playful learning environment for us all.

Check out some cool resources gathered from our friends @UrbanKaiFarms. Even better pop on down to grow your own with Farmer Kate.

Our whānau from Rangitāne o Wairarapa Education have also got some amazing ideas of how we can play and connect to our Atua (environments, Gods).

Recap - Mental Health Awareness Week

Last month was a special one. Aotearoa celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from the 27th of September to the 3rd of October. This year's theme was to take time to kōrero/mā te kōrero, ka ora - a little chat can go a long way.

MHAW is about connection and creating a safe space to talk about mental hauora (health). At Nuku Ora, we follow the Te Whare Tapa Whā model. Mental wellbeing/taha hinengaro is one of the four pillars that build a strong whare (house).

Our thoughts, feelings and emotions are essential components that make up our body and soul. Without our mental wellbeing/taha hinengaro, our whare/body/soul is unsteady. We challenge you to keep this kōrero going. Remember, the small chats can mean the most.

To help keep this kōrero going, print this chatterbox that can prompt questions to ask your whānau.
