Cedar’s Rescue: Why Domestic Rabbits Should Live Indoors

Check out this short video documenting the recent rescue of a stray bunny who is now named Cedar. It's a sad story, but it has a happy ending. Rabbit Advocates only adopts to indoor homes with sufficient space for exercise and time for social interactions. Indoor living prolongs rabbit lifespans by keeping them safe from predators, parasites, diseases, and extreme weather. Watch to find out why Cedar's story proves the importance of housing pet bunnies indoors.

Why I Foster With Rabbit Advocates

by Karl Langenwalter, Rabbit Advocates Foster Provider

Karl and his partner, Marie, are devoted Rabbit Advocates foster providers and volunteers. Karl & Marie have rescued and fostered many bunnies including the Berry Family whose parents, Goji & Juni, were caught in October of 2020 and then gave birth to three babies. All five members of the Berry Family have been adopted into wonderful forever homes. Karl & Marie are currently fostering Mythical Mama, Pixie, and her three babies. The Mythical Babies are all getting weaned this week and moving to new foster homes. To celebrate these two bunny families rescued by RA, Karl wrote about his experience as an RA foster provider.

Karl & Marie's senior Holland Lop, Sophia, rejected five bunny suitors until Cranberry hopped into her life. She accepted Cranberry into her castle, and he showers her with kisses every day.
Karl can't contain his love for his foster buns Pixie, Phoenix, Sphinx, and Callisto in a family cuddle puddle.

I have been a foster provider since New Year’s Day 2020, and it has been a thoroughly rewarding experience. My favorite part about fostering with Rabbit Advocates is the often-bittersweet excitement when a foster rabbit gets adopted. I know I will miss the bunnies, but I’ve been able to choose their adoptive homes and find the best fit. It has also been a fantastic way to find an adorable bond-mate for our own senior bun. But most of all, it has been amazing to see rabbits who have often been through so much hardship come out of their shells.

As we spend time with each foster rabbit, I love to watch their individual personalities emerge. Raspberry and Cranberry both wanted to be everyone’s friend. Lassie was so excited to be groomed our cats and ultimately found a husbun of her very own. Tiny Penelope, whom we caught in our neighborhood, bossed our big macho cat around. Biscuit had a very hard life, yet she still loved people so much. We felt very lucky that Goji & Juni and their three Berry Babies found love and safety in our home. It has been immensely inspiring to watch the babies grow up and do tiny binkies for the first time, and to know that these babies will never be forced to face difficulties like surviving on the streets as their parents once did. Currently, Mythical Mama Pixie and babies Phoenix, Sphinx, and Callisto are zooming their way around the room and into my heart.

Karl's former foster bunnies, Mama Juniper Berry and newborn Snowberry. The Berry Parents stayed bonded, and all three babies continue their happily ever after in their forever homes.
Juni gave birth to three babies in Karl's home. Huckleberry is closely bonded to his toddler human, Snowberry is now dating adoptable lady buns, and Thimbleberry is living on the Oregon Coast.
