Our away game against Legacy is set for this Friday at 7:00pm at Newsom stadium.  Tickets can be purchased through ticketspicket.com -search for Mansfield -Legacy.  Or follow this link:  Tickets.

Volunteers/ Donations
This week is a perfect week to volunteer to support the band.  The best seats in the house during away games are on the field during half-time.  Please consider helping our band - we can direct you where to help and we love having new parents on the field.

Our first away competition is this weekend.  Please make sure that your students have plenty of snacks and a sweatshirt - the bus can get cold.  There is rain currently in the forecast for Midland with cooler temps.

From the President
A note from Jennifer: Hooray for the start of contest season! We are so proud of the students and directors, and all the hard work that was on display during Friday’s Homecoming game and Saturday’s Mansfield contest!

As we get ready for the rest of contest season, which comes with long hours and lots of work for the boosters, I wanted to point out five important things:

  1. Move quickly: During contests, there are very strict rules. The students and directors know these rules so please follow their lead. Most importantly, please watch the clock. It would be heartbreaking to have the band’s score reduced due to a parent error, and as you could see from the finals announcement on Saturday, there is a very small point difference between first place and last place. Every point counts.*
  2. No phones: If you are on the field, please keep your cell phone in your pocket and turned off. There should be no texting, no videos, and no photographing. Also, we do not want a dramatic pause to be interrupted by a ring from the sidelines.
  3. Prop movement: During contests, when props are in use, take direction from the students. The students practice the placement and movement of the props, so unless you are asked to help take something on the field, please just assist with the movement of pit instruments and equipment and then get out of the way. Set up is a timed event and must be executed with precision. We need your help unloading props from the trucks, getting the props to the holding area, and making sure all the props are off the field in the short time provided after the show.
  4. Be helpful: Remember that the directors and students are in competition mode. To best assist the band, we need to provide support, but contest and game days are not the best time to ask questions or seek help from the competitors or directors. Contest days are long, hot, and tiring, so before you ask the students or directors to do something to help you out, instead please look for another booster for help.
  5. Positive encouragement: When you are on the sideline, in the stands, or anywhere at a contest, remember that the other bands are comprised of students who have parents and directors who have worked very hard on their shows. We would hate to hear someone making negative comments about our band or director, so we should refrain from doing the same thing. And, when you see our students and directors before and after competitions, please leave the critique to the judges. I promise you that the directors and students are able to identify every step, sound, or prop placement, so anything we have to say will not be helpful.
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the builders, chaperones, and volunteers who take care of all the behind-the-scenes work. You are wonderful and appreciated so much! Every student I have talked to has expressed how much they feel loved and supported by the boosters, so keep up the great work! If you need anything or have any questions, please give me a call/text at 817-915-4003 or email me at SummitBandPrez@gmail.com.

*Bands of America (BOA) has sent some information that explains how the competitions work. The two BOA contests for Summit are Midland and Waco. Please check summitband.com for a link to that information.
