New Appointments
The Methodist Circuit has confirmed that Rev Terry Keen has been allocated to the Eldwick Church.  He will work with our church as part of his duties in the Airedale Circuit.  We look forward to meeting him when he comes to preach towards the end of October.

The Leeds Diocese has announced that Rev Brian Greenfield, currently serving as Assistant Curate at Sutton, Cowling and Lothersdale, will become Priest in Change of St Paul’s Shipley, Priest in charge of Christchurch, Windhill, and Minister of the Eldwick Church.   This is a shared post and Rev Brian will work the equivalent of 2 days a week in our church.  His Licensing Service will take place on 20 November, and we look forward to welcoming him.

Rev Brian has sent this message:

Dear friends.  I am so excited to be appointed to this post and to join with you alongside my Methodist and other colleagues, in all that God is doing in Eldwick, Shipley and Windhill.

Although our three sons have all now flown the nest, Ruth and I will be bringing our friendly collie Rosie with us and she, like us, is very much looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know you. We are hoping to move into our new home in Shipley in good time for my licencing in November, and to begin ministry with you as we approach Advent, and celebrate together the coming of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, this Christmas.  Grace & Peace. Brian.

House groups  We are intending to restart our house groups at the beginning of October. Our groups meet fortnightly in each other’s homes.  These have been much missed and we are so pleased to be able to go ahead at last.

If you were previously in a group, your leader should contact you with details of a start date and venue.

If you would like to join a group, that is great. We have two groups with spaces. There is a sheet on the table by the East door – please sign up and you will be contacted re. date and venue.  These two groups will meet as follows:
  • Tuesday afternoons
  • Thursday evenings

There is also a space at the bottom of the sheet for anyone who would really like to join a group but can’t make either of the times offered. IF there are enough of you and we can find a someone willing to lead, we can start another group.

We will be starting with a course about prayer, which will take us up to Christmas. If you are thinking of joining, please be aware that you don’t need to know loads about the bible! You don’t actually have to say anything at all – but we hope you will.  The groups are very informal and friendly and are a really good way of getting to know people a little better.

Friday Night Bible Takeaway will now stop.  Many thanks to Jon for keeping us going with Bible input when we couldn't meet.

The Meaningful Chocolate Advent Calendar
This year, the Real Advent Calendar isn't for sale in supermarkets.  The calendar has Fairtrade Chocolate and a line of the Christmas story behind each of the 25 windows. It comes with a free book with a page for every day of Advent.
Sharron needs to make up an order for at least 18 to avoid paying for delivery, which will make the calendars more expensive!
I
f anyone is interested in buying them (at £4.50 each) can they let her know by 15 October so that she can place a church order.

Please contact Sharron Arnold at the church email address of finance@eldwickchurch.org.uk
Giving
Thanks to additional gifts from the congregation, we have been able to donate a total of £390 to Rock House.

We have sent £400 to Holme Wood for their foodbank.  This is the donations given in the last three months and we are very grateful to everyone who has given.

The mission committee agreed the following donations at a recent meeting:  £300 to the Penny Appeal to support Afghan refugees and £250 to the Gala Committee as a contribution from the money which we raised from selling refreshments at the Gala.  Thanks to everyone whose hard work on the day made this possible.
We are celebrating Harvest at Messy Church on Saturday 16 October.  On Sunday 17 October, there will be NO 10.30 am Morning Worship, however there will be a 9.15 am service of Holy Communion.

Messy Church is for everyone!  Each session starts with craft activities followed by a game, a story, songs, and a prayer.  We finish by having a simple meal together.
The Prayer Tree has been changed to the Autumn season.  Please feel free to write prayers of thanks or petition on a card from the box and peg it on the tree.  Judy Ash.
