Highlights from the Blog

Steampunk is the love-child of Victorian fashion and punk. Like all my steampunk fashion paper dolls, I try to design sets where there is some mix and match options making it a little micro-wardrobe and I think that really worked in this set in ways I am quite proud of.

One of the nice things about working with the Jewels and Gemstones 2.0 collection is when I feel a little stumped or frustrated, I have a back log of older Jewels and Gemstones stuff to refer to and build on. This set, for example, came from a Topaz as a Woodland Fairy set combined with a Fairy Wings and Gown set.

Five Fun Things

  1. Disney has 3 Limited-Edition Hocus Pocus Dolls (Complete With Mary's Vacuum!) and I think they are all super cute and nice likenesses of the actresses.
  2. In fun doll clothing news, American Girl releases doll outfits for Eid, Diwali, Hanukkah celebrations and now you can dress you doll up for the holiday of your choice. Now, if people would stop assuming Hanukkah is the height of the Jewish religious calendar, we might be getting somewhere.
  3. In more, American Girl Dolls news... Three Harlem's Fashion Row Designers Created the Looks Worn by the Newest American Girl Dolls (and the outfits, I have to say, are super cute)
  4. Paperdoll Review has some new paper doll books by Deanna Williams and the Shakespeare Paper Dolls are the one I picked up, because I do love me some Shakespeare
  5. Apparently, they are bringing back Law and Order and this article has great thoughts. You might be wondering- what do paper dolls have to do with the return of Law and Order? Well, if only you knew how many paper dolls I made while watching Law and Order, you'd understand. Dun, Dun.

Ramblings From Rachel

Hey Y'all,

I hope you are all having a fantastic October. It's lovely here (though cold and we've already had one blizzard), so I bundled up. I really do love the autumn and while it is very short in interior Alaska, it is still beautiful. It would be nice though, I confess, if it had lasted a little bit longer.

For today's paper doll coloring page, I wanted it to be adorable, casual and very Halloween without needing to also be a costume. Hence the stroped top, denim skirt and tights with books. But seriously, but favorite thing might be the Ho-Yeon's shoes- they're little kitty cat shoes!

Tell me, we don't all need kitty cat shoes? I had this great cat mask, but my partner lost it and now case counts are so high up here that I am wearing much less fun, but more safe masks.

Seriously people, stay safe out there. This thing isn't over yet.

- Rachel

P.S. I did a round up of ghosts and vampires this month back in October 1st. Just in case you do want some more costume Halloween fun!

The Newsletter Paper Doll

Ho-yeon (sometimes written as Ho-Yeon and maybe Hyeon) is a Korean name. I read some contradictory information on it's meaning. One source I found said, "Virtuous" and another source said, "Dark".
A third source didn't really have a meaning.  Maybe someone who knows Korean names can shoot me an explanation. I'm super curious now and inquiring minds want to know.
