Bishop Ruth has written to all clergy to encourage them to use their regular Sunday service to explore together what safer places look like, and to thank all those working behind the scenes to make our churches safer for all.

Bishop's Order of St Richard Ceremony
Thirty-nine people will be recognised with The Order of St Richard this Saturday 9th October in the Cathedral. The 39 lay people from within the diocese will be recognised for their exceptional contributions to the parish, the local community or the Diocese. The list of those to be honored can be found here

Bishop Will urges communities to join climate debate
As the world's leaders begin to prepare for the COP26 conference in November, Bishop Will has pledged that communities across the Diocese will add their voices to address the urgent effects of climate change.
He said practical action was needed: "Making a transformational change in our own lives and in the lives of our communities through individual and collective action is crucial." Read his full response here .

Black History Month
October is Black History Month. The Church of England has designed resources for all churches to use during Black History Month, including Services of the Word, a Eucharistic service, Prayers of Lament and of Commission, and links to further resources for Bible studies, youth work, Messy Church, and music. Animal Welfare Sunday
Last Sunday was Animal Welfare Sunday and as many of our churches hold Pet Blessings around this time, we got chatting to Jo Bailey, a Christian and Head of Farming for RSPCA Assured and asked her why Christians should care about the way farm animals are treated. Anti-slavery day starts Monday18th October with commissioning
The Clewer Initiative has produced a new resource pack for churches planning to organise an anti-slavery day service for Sunday 17th October. The pack contains liturgy, prayers, suggested Bible readings, hymns and a bespoke session for house groups. The resource pack can be accessed here
Bishop Will and the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, Rt Revd Richard Moth, will commission five ambassadors from the Diocese of Chichester and ten from the Roman Catholic Diocese on Anti-Slavery Day, Monday October 18 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Four candidates are from parishes in the Diocese of Chichester are:

- Jane Myers
- Rev Sue Foster
- Rev Lizzie Green
