Hello Advising Network,

It's that special time of year again when I get to write all about exams! This semester brings more change as we navigate on-line and in-person courses. See below for updates and information sessions.

Communications

Students received a communication as above. For more information see Student Exams and COVID-19 FAQs.

Faculty will receive a communication this week outlining updated on-campus exam procedures, developed in consultation with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). See
On-Campus Exam Guide for Professors and Invigilators and more Exam Information for Professors and Invigilators

Departmental administrators have received a detailed communication regarding in-person exam requirements and invigilator hiring. If you should be added to this mailing list, contact exams@ryerson.ca.

On-Campus Exam Procedure Highlights

  • EHS recommends that professors and invigilators wear face shields, available through departments. Your department should work with their Environmental Health and Safety manager to identify the quantity required through the risk assessment process. Once determined, a request can be sent to shipping and receiving, copying your EHS manager.
  • On-campus students will be required to show their OneCard and RyersonSafe Badge, and will be turned away from the exam if these are not provided. However, a paper copy of the health screening is available and can be used if a student has forgotten their phone. You may wish to provide copies to your invigilators. The OneCard also issues temporary identification during their business hours.
  • If needed for departments or exam rooms, you can print COVID-19 signage.
  • If someone reports a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19, see Reporting Cases on Campus.

Online Exams

If an instructor plans to use virtual proctoring to administer a final exam, students can review the information regarding online exams and virtual proctoring. We suggest students are clear on the format of the exam, test their set up, and try a practice quiz a minimum of two weeks prior to the scheduled examination.

For more information see the Final Exam Policy or email exams@ryerson.ca.

Academic Accommodations

The Test Centre is working hard toward administering in-person tests and exams during the Fall 2021 semester. However, offices and testing space in the Victoria building remain closed, as they have not yet received clearance from Environmental Health and Safety to re-open. The team remains available to continue to offer remote support to faculty and students.

Students requesting to write their quizzes, tests, and final exams using their test accommodations should still be instructed to book their accommodated test using the AAS Student Portal. Students registered with Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) who need to schedule an accommodated make-up, use AAS Online Services

The Test Centre team is available to support Faculty with Special Access requests in D2L and students registered with AAS who are enrolled in an in-person course should speak to their instructor regarding options available to write an assessment.

Once the Test Centre receives clearance, they will communicate our timeframe for reopening.

If you have questions about supporting students who require academic accommodation for their exam, please refer to the Student Academic Accommodation and Faculty Accommodations information, or contact testcentrefaculty@ryerson.ca

Make-Up Tests

Faculty and students can request remote make-up tests for students without accommodations via the Make Up Test Centre webpage. Please check the Remote Tests tab for more information or contact makeuptestctr@ryerson.ca. Students registered with Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) who need to schedule an accommodated make-up, please use AAS as above.

The Make-Up Test Centre is also working toward reopening and will communicate with instructors and students as soon as we have a definitive timeframe.
