New resolution on MHM
In July, the Human Rights Council, the key inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe, adopted a resolution on menstrual hygiene management, human rights and gender equality (A/HRC/RES/47/4). While MHM has been a topic in resolutions on the human rights to water and sanitation before, this is the first time a resolution was adopted specifically on MHM. The resolution, which was brought forward by Cameroon, was adopted by consensus, meaning that all member states of the Human Rights Council agreed to it. It was also explicitly backed by 39 states who signed up to it as co-sponsors.
If your country currently is a member of the Human Rights Council or one of the 39 co-sponsors*, you can use the resolution in national level advocacy to demand more action from governments on the topic.

Period Poverty
We would also like to highlight the following recent, very impactful and insightful reports.

These reports show that period poverty is an issue for people who menstruate in high-income countries (see also the research report by Dani Barrington in the next section). If you have similar reports and studies available for your country or region, please share them with us!
