30 SEPTEMBER 2021

Dear Colleague,

We are delighted to bring you a new edition of the CoP Poverty and Inequality Snapshot – featuring key events of relevance to this community during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. This year's UNGA was marked by the simultaneous challenges of COVID-19, climate, and humanitarian and security crises.

Worth highlighting is UNDP's special event,
"A Shot for All," which brought together world leaders who identified bold actions needed to accelerate vaccine access for all, particularly in developing countries. During the event, UNDP's Administrator Achim Steiner stressed the need to recognize vaccine equity as a global public good and as a top development priority.

As part of the UNGA 76, the UN Secretary-General presented his vision on the future of global cooperation –
Our Common Agenda – a call to strengthen multilateral agreements, starting with the 2030 Agenda, towards achieving sustainable prosperity for all.

Minouche Shafik - APRIL 2021 - FIND MORE HERE
The challenges that are faced by our world –from climate change to humanitarian crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic– will not be solved unless we take our interdependencies seriously. We all participate in society through mutual obligations (among our family, community, work peers, and fellow citizens). Yet, our social contract has been broken by changing global dynamics related to technological shifts, disempowering gender roles, aging, and climate disasters. In What We Owe Each Other, leading policy expert Minouche Shafik identifies critical elements for a new social contract that empowers and encourages citizens to contribute to society and care for others.
