And now for one of my favorites - Fat Bear Week

Every day at lunch time I tune into the Explore bear cams in the Katmai National Park in Alaska https://explore.org/livecams/brown-bears/river-watch-brown-bear-salmon-cams Every year the explore website has an online competition to find the fattest bear which is a bit of fun. Brown Bears are shortly to enter hibernation during which they will loose a third of their body weight. Stoking on the padding by eating salmon in the rivers will keep the bears alive over the winter. It seems the salmon have not yet arrived, but this doesn’t stop the bears sitting in the water and staring hopefully for fish.

Go to the website https://explore.org/fat-bear-week and have some fun choosing the fattest bear of the year! Some of the largest brown bears on Earth make their home at Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska. Fat Bear Week is an annual tournament celebrating their success in preparation for winter hibernation. Fat Bear Week is a single elimination tournament. From September 29th to October 5th, your vote decides who is the fattest of the fat. For each set of two bears, vote for the bear who you think is the fattest. The bear with the most votes advances. Only one will be crowned champion of Fat Bear Week. Matchups will be open for voting between 12 - 9 p.m. Eastern (9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pacific). Watch the bears of Brooks River everyday on explore.org.
