What Is Up! Welcome to Three Thing Thursday.

Hello to the old folks and welcome welcome welcome to the new ones!

This is the only fun and informative (it's still a thing) newsletter that makes the boring and tedious work of performing better in training and life look WAY TOO SEXY.

I've gotten some feedback on the last newsletter that having a bit of a quick read along with my "things" is a nice addition. So I'll keep doing it until someone yells at me and says, "Bro, please stop.".

1. How to upgrade your identity to form new run habits

I love habits, especially the good ones. As James Clear says "Good habits do not restrict freedom, they create it."

The crazy thing about habits is that you need to change your identity first and believe you are that person (ie: a runner) before you can reap the rewards and outcomes (eg: fast times, beach body, millions of dollars, etc.)

Bodybuilder turned Ultra Marathoner, Seth Baird explains how he did just that.

2. Note to all endurance/distance runners - Don't skip ARM DAY!!!

Yes, indeed the science is in that strong arms = strong running legs.

This is a cool one where you think it's not related to helping distance runners... but it is!

So, why do Olympic sprinters have insane shoulders? The Olympics might have ended last month, but this is pretty damn interesting.

Crazy enough, to date there are no specific studies behind this phenomenon. It's just this awesomely researched scientific theory by Youtuber "The Sprint Project" aka Oscar.

3. Jon Kuhn on running consistency

Mr. Jon Kuhn from last week is back for another deep and meaningful running life lesson. This one is on consistency.

One Minute a Day

100 days of running at least one mile a day.

I have learned more about running and maintaining consistent fitness in these 100 days than I have in over five years.

At the beginning of the year, I could barely string together more than two 9 minute miles. This was after completing a treacherous trail marathon at the end of 2020.

Tonight’s run with my 11-year-old son was one of those runs I use to fantasize about. Just a month ago I paced him on my bicycle because I didn’t want to slow him down for his Sunday recovery runs.

Friends, if you are wanting to make a change it doesn’t take as much work as you would think. It just takes consistent effort.

Make sure your bare minimum is greater than zero and you’ll be amazed at what can happen.
