Dear friends / Queridos Amigos

(mais informação em Portuguese em baixo)

The days start to become shorter
and full of cultural activities
busy busy busy
I hope you are well and healthy.

Looks like the Karavan is soon back on the roads :)

It was such an inspiring month with Our Skin/ Pela Nossa Pele
projected on a big building in Setubal-
a dream come true!
+ performance by the elderly people of the area, so moving!

It was also lovely to bring back to life our performance MA-MA in Lisbon
After 3 versions of the show, it has finally come to its Natural shape
and to launch our MA-MA booklet, made by the talented Josefa Searle
and ... to teach for the first time in the south, in Faro.

Now loads to come here and there and everywhere...
Portugal, Holand, Spain, France, UK...
Workshops and performances ...
Show must go on
and hopefully, Art can save our planet and our spirits!

Still missing a lot of you whom I haven't seen for definitely too long!

Looking forward to the time and place where our path would once again cross.

The current pandemic has made us think about the need, as a global society, to look at our relationship with planet Earth. Our Skin is a project that aims to reflect on the place where we live and to remember that we are nature.

Our Skin is a dance film by Yael Karavan and Rita Vilhena. Filmed in the wilderness of Coentral Grande, in Castanheira de Pêra, the film is composed of images captured with micro and macro lenses of the skin of the trees, the veins of the rivers, and the bodies of the dancers, breaking the separation that exists in urban society. The film observes and questions how we influence each other: Body-Earth, Earth-Body as it explores the transformation of the female body merging with the natural landscape. The boundaries between the performers' bodies and the landscape disappear, highlighting the continuity of our skin into the skin of the earth.

Our Skin aims to bring back the wild nature into the urban spaces where it once belonged. The film is dedicated in memory of the artist Dani Karavan who passed away during the creation of this film.

(taught in Portugues and English)

ULTIMAS VAGAS !

O objetivo é libertar o corpo “domesticado” do conjunto de gestos e movimentos preconcebidos permitindo o acesso à profunda e autêntica essência do movimento.

STAGE - LE REFLET DU MONDE DANS UNE GOUTTE D'EAU -
CRÉATION D'UN SOLO (AUTO)-PORTRAIT

A Paris

au Théâtre de la Terre
1 Passage du Buisson Saint-Louis
M° Belleville ou Goncourt

23 - 24 Octobre

IS BACK! on your Zoom Screens
Wherever you are!

29th of October 18h30 and 20h

Join the ridiculously serious callers Yael and Silvia, in a surreal night of Bingo with visual treats and dancing beats. Once accessed the box office, where audience members receive their personal BINGO card, everyone joins the callers at the Virtual Bingo Hall and the game begins. We spin the wheel, draw a number and test the audience’s luck and knowledge on their Human Rights.

Partly interactive and participatory theatre, partly clown show and eclectic cabaret, the show takes on different shapes every night depending on which numbers are drawn and who is in the audience. So sit comfortably on your sofa and join us, but watch out for the numbers as they take on hidden meanings and expose the flaws in the rules of the 'game'.Conceptually ingenious, this interactive show is part competition, part comedy and part learning experience in multiple senses…

The transition to an online show is cleanly achieved, building a sense of community among the participants who are clearly instructed how to play.★★★★ The Reviews Hub

Bingo! is a wild re-imagining of the familiar game. Karavan and Mercuriali are extremely likeable, and juggle the unpredictability of an interactive audience with impressive spontaneity... It’s a nudge to let ourselves off the hook, but remember our rights.★★★★ The UpComing

It’s all weaved together cleverly, and delivered with great gusto by our two energetic performers, who hold the space admirably – with disco-dancing and clever quipping a-plenty. Jolly good fun, and educational to boot!

Dani Karavan / High Maintenance

27 & 28 de otubro no DocLisboa festival

The documentary film by Barak Heymman about my dearest late father, who passed away exactly 4 months ago will be arriving to Doc Lisboa Festival!
+ talk with the audience after the screening.

About the film
Dani Karavan has created nearly 100 environmental installations all across the world and has won some of the most prestigious international art awards. Yet Karavan is far from satisfied. His monumental structures are rapidly deteriorating. His advanced age is starting to catch up with him. The political climate in his country is driving him mad, as does the director of the documentary being made about him. In addition, Karavan becomes embroiled in a serious political and artistic conflict over his latest commission. 'High Maintenance' is a cinematic reflection of its namesake: It is a straightforward, yet intricate film, emotional without being melodramatic, and as painful as it is humorous and passionate.

We have recently launched our new website and are still open for your contributions/ work submissions.

Created in collaboration with Vincent Ordonenz

PRESS HERE TO SEE IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES!

Dear friends of the world, in the face of the current state of our world we feel the need to break the silence and take action for our planet. Waiting for authorities to take act upon these urgent matters is a waste of time and we need to unite in the face of this crises in order to imagine a better future. Protecting our environment and ourselves is of most importance and must be done now before it’s too late. As part of this wondrous nature we must have more empathy and collaborate. We invite you to join our Empathic Action towards our one and only Home- Planet Earth, by adding in your Art and Heart. Please email us to if you'd like to be part of our project and add your work to it.

I have already announced the relaunch of the Total Theatre Magazine website
And I would like to deeply recommend it to you all! especially people with interest in the performing arts. When I moved to the UK in 1996 I studied at Ecole Phillipe Gaulier and used to wait with anticipation every 3 months for the Magazine to come out in a book shop around the corner from the school in Camden. Last Autumn I participated in the Total Theatre Artists as Writers 2020 programme, It was such a rewarding experience and I am so proud to share my 1st published article here entitled - Can Art Save our Planet?

Please like and share and all that sort of stuff, to help us spread the word @TotalTheatreMag

You can also find other article from the Artists as Writers course they are all extremely worth wile on the site....
