Dear Holy Cross Families,

Thank you to all the students and parents who helped with a successful 8th grade Nelson's chicken fundraiser this past Sunday!  We encourage family engagement at all grade levels and are looking forward to more opportunities like this in the future.

I also want to thank you for your patience at dismissal the other day.  On Monday, we received a call a few minutes before dismissal from the St. Joseph County Police Department asking us to hold our students as a precautionary measure, due to activity in the neighborhood. Student safety is a top priority for us and we regularly instruct teachers, staff and students on what to do in case of emergencies. To help ensure a safe environment we use Standard Response Protocol (SRP) for emergencies, and regularly practice emergency drills. Please Click Here for the emergency protocols that we use. As was the case on Monday, if there is ever a time when we must use one of these protocols, we will communicate that via a message on the Remind app.  Please make sure you are receiving messages via Remind. If you do not receive these messages please email: dcurry@holycrosscrusaders.org with your most updated phone number and email address.

We continue to enjoy our warm weather but know that we will soon need sweaters and jackets. We are in the process of switching vendors for our Spirit Wear attire, which includes our Holy Cross Fleece.  Though the Holy Cross Fleece is a popular option for school-approved sweaters, it is not the only option!  Your child can wear a variety of acceptable navy blue sweaters.  Please see examples HERE.

Finally, I want to note a small, but important, change in our yearly calendar. We will hold our first e-Learning day on Monday, October 18th instead of October 11th.  Our teachers are preparing for this day and will send out more information as we approach this date.

Have a great week!

Queridos padres y guardianes,

After a month of classes, I’m happy to report that our school is doing very well. Each year we add a new immersion teacher as the program progresses a grade, this year now in third grade. This expansion of the immersion program automatically adds up to 24 new students a year, until it reaches 8th grade in another five years. This year our school attracted another couple dozen new students in many of the other grade levels, which is a testament to the academic reputation of our school that is motivating parents to transfer their  children into Holy Cross School. Most of our classes are now full and are not able to take in more students.
Annie Borjas, our creative principal, has added a couple of innovations to the school schedule this year. One is the introduction of elective courses for the 4th -5th grades and the junior high grades. The elective courses are offered once a week for 45 minutes and run the length of the trimester, affording each student the opportunity to take three elective courses this academic year… Annie has also introduced a school assembly every Friday afternoon at the end of the school day.... It’s also been a blessing to have, once again, all our students in grades 1 through 8 at our weekly school Mass, with Kindergarten and Pre-K joining us on occasion.

As we settle into the school year, the Home and School Association (HASA) is looking forward to celebrating our vibrant community of students, families, and educators. Our first meeting, via Zoom, will be Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. In the meantime, please reach out to hasa@holycrosscrusaders.org with any questions, ideas, or just a note to let them know you’re interested in learning about ways in which HASA supports the Holy Cross family. We value your input, and look forward to fellowship. Together we are better than ever!
