St. Paul's Epistle
Week of September 29- October 5, 2021
Pastor's Perspective
It’s Almost Election Day!
“The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife,[b] sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.” – 1st Timothy 3:1-7
On October 16, 2021, delegates representing the clergy and the laity of the churches in our diocese will elect our next Bishop. There are four (4) delegates and two (2) alternate delegates whom you have chosen to represent St. Paul’s Church in the election. The delegates are Jack & Kathy Benson, Cathy Strite, and Deb Wright. The alternate delegates who will serve if the delegates aren’t able to serve are Larry & Ginny Biddle. You will be well-represented by these folks.
After the 10:00AM worship service this Sunday, October 3, the delegates will be available to hear from you as to who you think they should vote for in the election. For you to have an educated opinion, I suggest that you get to know the candidates. You may recall that the three candidates for consideration for the next Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina are:
- The Very Rev. Charles F. “Chip” Edgar, III, Dean of The Cathedral Church of the Apostles in the Diocese of the Carolinas, Columbia, SC.
- The Rev. Dr. Robert C. “Rob” Sturdy, Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets, St. Alban’s Chapel at The Citadel, Charleston, SC.
- The Rev. Christopher S. “Chris” Warner, Rector of the Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivan’s Island and Daniel Island, SC.
The next St. Paul’s Church Family Fun Night is Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 6PM at the church. We will have a hotdog cookout and fun and fellowship. Please RSVP by contacting the church office at (843) 248-4706 orstpauls@sccoast.net.
