Looking sharper than ever
Blooming flowers, warm evenings and the purple promise of jacarandas – the optimism of spring is in the air and there's plenty to look forward to. Against all odds there are glimmers of hope. Hotels are reopening, new restaurants launching and live events returning. As FM's columnist said hopefully in her Ode to Joburg restaurants this week; "if fortune favours the brave, they’re in for a windfall".

Whether you seek urban excitement or a slice of nature, we have plenty of ideas this week – from  what to look out for at this weekend's Turbine Art Fair, where to swim this summer, tasty downtown lunch spots, hikes and braai spots, plus vintage wines in the spotlight and our pick of the weekend's top events
