Private School Deadlines Approaching
Some Fall 2022 applications are due early Nov 2021
Chicago’s independent school application cycle is well underway and many schools’ deadlines are coming up in the next several weeks. Be sure to keep these dates in mind if your child is applying to one of the following schools: Nov 5: Latin School, Nov 14: Univ of Chicago Lab School, Dec 1: Francis Parker and Frances Xavier Warde, Dec 3: Bernard Zell, Dec 6: Bennett Day School, Dec 13: Catherine Cook; Dec 31- Lycee Francais de Chicago, Jan 14- British School Lincoln Park, Jan 24- Near North Montessori, Feb 1- British School South Loop. ISEE Testing for Middle to High School
Independent schools may require ISEE testing
If your child is applying to an independent school this Fall, and are in grades 2-12, they may be required to submit their Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) score as part of their application materials. This year online, paper-based, and at home administration options are available. Students can test once per season (fall, winter & spring) and choose to submit their highest score before a school's deadline.
Each independent school has their own requirements about what grade they require ISEE scores submitted. For example, Latin, UChicago Lab School, and GEMS require the ISEE for applicants to 5th grade and higher; Francis Parker and British International School of Chicago require the ISEE for applicants to 6th grade and up; while Lycee Francais requires ISEE scores for applicants to 9th grade and up. CPS offers accelerated programs for Kindergarten through 8th grade called Regional Gifted or Classical Programs. These are either one class per grade in their own building or they co-share space in a neighborhood school. CPS's 2022-2023 Application is Now Open
Get started on your student's application at go.cps.edu
If your student is currently 2 years old (by Sept 1, 2021) through 8th grade, he/she can apply for limited CPS preschools (Suder, Drummond & Inter-American) and hundreds of CPS elementary & high school programs for the 2022-2023 school year. CPS online applications opened on Oct 13 and will close on Dec 15, 2021. This new portal requires that all families create an account, and CPS families can enter their CPS Student ID while non-CPS families can request a CPS Student ID after creating an account.
Families can choose up to 20 lottery-based or minimal requirement Choice programs (unranked list for elementary, ranked single choice for high school) or up to 6 test based Selective Enrollment programs (ranked, single choice for both ES & HS). These are independent of each student's assigned neighborhood school and each application type can produce an offer (elementary can yield multiple Choice offers). Go.CPS.edu outlines the process and admissions selection criteria. For elementary selective enrollment (gifted, classical, academic centers) programs, in person testing dates can be selected after submitting your school choices. For high school programs, all interested high schoolers must take the CPS High School Admissions Test in November (see below). You can return to your portal to add or delete school programs until the 12/15/21 deadline.

CPS HS Admissions Test in November
All CPS 8th graders & interested private students can test
Current 8th graders interested in most CPS high school programs (including selective enrollment, magnet and IB) must take a single High School Admissions Test that will be part of the rubric for 9th grade entry. NWEA Map testing is no longer part of the high school entrance rubric, and this single test will be given instead. All current 8th grade CPS students will be administered the HS Admissions test on Tuesday, November 9th during the school day at their current school. Non-CPS 8th grade students can test on one of 4 weekend days of testing, but can only test ONCE on either November 13, 14, 20 or 21. More information HERE.
