Comms from the Commodore
Your club needs you

This is the time when all committee posts from the Commodore downwards are voted on at the AGM,  and inevitably there are always some changes as people step down or reach the end of their term, so if you would like to volunteer, particularly for either of the roles below,  please get in touch.

We would like to thank our current Membership Secretary, Debbie who is standing down after the renewals period in the Spring (2022), and so we are  actively seeking a replacement.   This is an ideal time to volunteer - a) before the AGM and b) so Debbie has plenty of time to show you the ropes before she passes the baton over.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, we are also looking for a Bar Manager, and Charlie Beck would be happy to talk it through with you, if you are interested.

Committees currently are:
Sailing; Social; House (all things connected to clubhouse and boat park); Estates; Bar; Training (adult); Youth training; Environment and Sailability; as well as some appointments, such as Newsletter, Bookkeeper, and more.  Click the button below for the full list.

Papercourt Committees and Appointments
The Club Championships and Festival of Sailing - Sunday 31st October, 2021 - First Start 11 am

The Club Championships comprise two important trophies - The Champion of Champions, and the Lawes Trophy.  The Champ of Champs is for those that have previously won any Papercourt Trophy except a Novice Trophy - and will be the best three of four races;  whilst the Lawes is for EVERYONE ELSE.    Young or old, novice or not so much,  there will be four races with a seperate start from the Champs, three to count.   Racing starts at 11am with two races before lunch and two afterwards.

However this year the results of the Lawes will also be used to calculate some other prizes  - Best two results to count - there will be a winner for each boat class, youngest sailor, oldest sailor, sailor who has taken part in a Papercourt adult training course this year, male sailor and female sailor.

There will also be a prize for the best fancy dress boat - whether or not they take part in the racing, or just choose to cruise.

So come along - take part in the racing, maybe win a prize, and enjoy a very reasonably priced Pizza and Ice Cream lunch.

Topper Open - Saturday 30th October, 2021

The Topper open  is on Saturday 30th October.   Click the button below to enter. There will be no youth training or club racing that day, and only limited space for cruising at the clubhouse end of the lake.  I am sure many of our youth sailors will want to enter an Open on home territory, and here is a message for our adult topper sailors from Susan your Adult Class Captain:

I would like to warmly invite race-level Adult Topper Sailors to join me at this year's Topper Open on Saturday 30th October (See poster above) - the organisers have ear-marked some special prizes for us!  The club's Topper hire fleet has increased to six, so if your child is already participating in the family Topper then there may be an option to hire one.  Alternatively, if you would be interested in helping out with race lunch in the Galley, Lorna Davies would be delighted to hear from you    Do contact me either via the whatsapp group (see button at the bottom) or email me on susan@marklewis.org if you would like to know more.

Launch and Lunch to continue due to Popular Demand

The wonderful Mike Tozer has said he will continue to organise the Tuesday morning launch and lunch for the forseeable future.  Keep an eye on the Cruising Whatsapp group (button below to join) for news.   Please note we have been advised of the following which may affect some of you this week:

CHURCH HILL (NEWARK LANE) EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE
TREE FELLING WORKS 18th to 22nd OCTOBER 2021

09:30 TO 15:30

Please also remember that after 1st November you must wear a full wetsuit or a drysuit when sailing (until 30th March).

Don't Forget the Work Party Date - Sunday 7th November all morning

Lots of jobs get done at the work party, but please remember that clearing weeds and grass around your berths is the individual berth-holders responsibility.

Ladies Sailing

Here is a message from our new Ladies Sailing Captain:

I will be helping with the ladies sailing admin for next summer and am looking for help and support from other lady members. The recent questionnaire included requests for more ladies sailing at the club and a small group of us met up last Sunday. We had lots of possible ideas, but firstly we would like to hear from you.

We are having a ladies social on 22nd Nov, for all lady club members. Drinks at 7pm, followed by a potluck supper at 7.30 - please bring a dish to share! 8:30pm Full Group Discussion.

There will be lots of opportunity for discussion and chat about ladies sailing at the club - at any level!

Please let us know via the Ladies that Launch WhatsApp group if you can come, or if you can’t make it but would like to share ideas. If you are not already on this group, please click the button below or contact me by email.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

With thanks and kind regards

Do you need some help to get on the water?

Sometimes new members need a bit of a hand with rigging, or an established member buys a new boat and needs a hand with a particular class specific twiddly bit, or a repair.   There is a wealth of goodwill and knowledge amongst the membership, but we often don't know that you need that little bit of extra help.   If you join the Cruising Whatsapp group (button below) and post a message on there, someone will surely be able to help you, arrange a time to meet up, or point you to the correct person with that specialist knowledge.  We want to help you, just let us know what you need.

50 of these on the lake on a windy Saturday morning could be fun

The club has a number of Whatsapp groups which anyone can join, for various interests in the club

We have:
Ladies that Launch - for our adult ladies; A Solo group; A Scow group; A Laser group; the RS 200 group; Topper Adults Group - for adult topper sailors and a group called

Papercourt Cruising which is a more general group for members to chat, arrange cruising time, talk about the weather, get help etc.  This group is great for new members.

Click on any of the buttons below, from your mobile and you will be automatically joined to the group.   You can join a class group even if you do not own a boat of that class but would like to find out more, or arrange a taster sail.  You can belong to any or all of the groups.

Please note that these groups are solely for matters relating to the club and sailing, and should not be used for any personal charity fundraising or any commercial content.
