Roadwork Notice 10-16-21

Stormwater drainage work is scheduled for Tuesday October 19th in the area of 89 South Mill St. Work hours will be approximately 7a-5p.
The road will be closed in this area and a detour will be in place using Hunters Ridge Way and back onto South Mill St.
Please use caution and drive slowly through the detour.

Thomas P. Brock, 82

Thomas P. Brock, 82, a retired sergeant of the Massachusetts State Police after 28 years, died October 13, 2021 at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Marie Janet (St. Pierre) Brock to whom he was married for 31 years. Born in Hopkinton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Eva (Hogan) Brock.

A 1957 graduate of Walpole High School, he held a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and a master’s degree from Anna Maria College. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he also worked for the Boston Herald.

He was a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Maryland and attended the Oklahoma State Police Commercial Trucking School. He enjoyed time spent at his home in Port St Lucie, Florida.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Thomas Jr. and William, his daughter Maryellen, his devoted stepson Jon Lachapelle of Beverly, his brother Joseph Brock of Salem, NH and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Kevin.

The funeral will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. from the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Vera E. (Melchior) Geissinger, 93

Vera E. (Melchior) Geissinger, 93, of Ashland died suddenly Monday, October 11th at the Casa de Ramana Rehabilitation Center. Born in Germany, Vera was a long-time resident of Hopkinton, and has been a resident of Ashland for the past 16 years. She was the only child of Walter and Charlotte Melchior.

Vera immigrated to the US in the early 1950s after a brief sojourn in Canada. She settled in Hopkinton with her husband and her son, where they refurbished an old house themselves. A hard-working homemaker, Vera raised three children, maintained a large vegetable garden, and sewed clothes for her family. She was an avid gardener of flowering plants as well, and sold them as a sideline for many years. In her spare time, Vera enjoyed a variety of crafts including knitting, crochet, and ceramics. Travel was another of her passions; she visited many countries later in life, from Europe to North Africa.

Vera leaves her son, Kurt Geissinger, and his wife Elaine, of Bellingham, MA; her daughter, Karen Blazevich, and her husband Michael, of Montana; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Karl Geissinger, and her daughter, Margie Matteson.
