Upcoming series on Masculinity, Faith, and Equity

Mennonite Men and Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (including the Church Leadership Center and the Institute of Mennonite Studies) are co-sponsoring Knowing Your Narrative: Unpacking Our Stories of Masculinity and Equity, a three-part series of events that seeks to unpack narratives around masculinity, faith, and equity. Participants will share their own personal narratives, identify the ways they’ve been shaped by masculine messaging, and reframe their own masculine identity so it’s more inclusive and holistic.

The series will be composed of two webinars and one daylong on-campus event (also available online), facilitated by Ben Tapper with the Kindred Collective. A free PDF copy of the book Strong, Loving, and Wise: Joining Conversations for Men will be made available to all participants. Prior to the event, it is recommended that participants read The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity and Love by bell hooks. For more information and to register, visit ambs.edu/narrative.

This series is sponsored by Mennonite Men and AMBS (including the Church Leadership Center and the Institute of Mennonite Studies).

JoinTrees campaign funds 41,600 seedlings

At its recent board meeting in September, the board of Mennonite Men approved JoinTrees grants totaling $41,600 to plant trees in four Mennonite related projects in the United States and Central America.
  • Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship, Goshen IN. 700 tree seedlings for a project to transform a field into a small woodland next to the church.
  • Greencroft Tree Committee, Goshen, IN. 900 seedlings for project to convert existing lawn grass into native shrub and tree cover between a factory in the industrial park and Greencroft residential areas.
  • Baja Verapaz, Guatemala. 20,000 tree seedlings for an agroforestry project to restore degraded land and support human communities practicing sustainable agriculture.
  • La Paz, Honduras. 20,000 tree seedlings to be planted in projects to restore land in local watersheds and assist farmers with agroforestry.
These plantings total 41,600 trees with Mennonite related projects. Trees in these various projects will help mitigate global warming, provide other ecosystem services, support biodiversity, and assist vulnerable populations.

These grants are part of the JoinTrees campaign to plant one million trees to restore the Earth. By increasing tree and forest cover, goals of the JoinTrees campaign are to help: (1) mitigate global warming, (2) serve climate justice, and (3) sustain biodiversity. “Our vision,” says campaign director Steve Thomas, “is of a healthy, thriving planet where an abundant life of God’s shalom is enjoyed by all from generation to generation.”
