The McFerren Plot Arrives,
Author Gives Reading Nov. 18
On the heels of havoc wreaked by Hurricane Ida in early September, our newest book The McFerren Plot by New Orleans poet Martha McFerren arrived from the printer. We are happy to launch this first volume in our River Poets series. Local poet and friend Ken Fontenot comments that he got the book, "read it in one sitting and it's wonderful!" McFerren will be reading from the new collection at Blue Cypress Books in uptown New Orleans Thurs. Nov. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. She will be joined by fellow poet Gina Ferrara reading from her own work. Refreshments served. Come enjoy a literary evening! More details at Eventbrite and Facebook.

Sir Bone Funk Lyrics Recorded
by Chris Mule
Eddie Tebbe, author of Sir Bone Funk: Living Life in the Key of Triumph, had the honor of having his lyrics from "The Crossroads of my Life" in the book (p. 101) recorded last week by Chris Mule, vocalist and guitarist with the Honey Island Swamp Band. Severely disabled, Tebbe has always been inspired by New Orleans music and the people who make it. Congrats to Tebbe and Mule!

Jazz Stories Lauded in Local Review
New Orleans writer Willmarine B. Hurst wrote a stirring review of Arthur Pfister aka Professor Arturo's collection Jazz Stories.
The book, she writes "takes you on a wild ride through the streets of New Orleans, in some now defunct bars and restaurants and in the homes of some shady and not-so-shady characters." She reiterates what Pfister's fans have always known, that "he is a master of word manipulation and rhyming schematics" and says he "takes the reader's mind on a lazy river ride down memory lane." Thank you Ms. Hurst.
The review appears in full on our website on the book's page.

Murder on the Teche
By Tom Aswell
The Tuesday evening virtual author's series at Jefferson Parish Library featured Tom Aswell on October 12 speaking about and reading from his recent book Murder on the Teche: A True Story of Money and a Flawed Investigation.
Aswell, a veteran journalist and political investigator in Baton Rouge, discussed the anomalies of the scandalous murder of Dr. Robert Chastant in New Iberia 2010 and the questionable investigation that followed, sending undocumented laborer Ismael Viera to prison for life, while he maintained the doctor's wife had paid him to do it. A fascinating read!

Edwin & I Receives Bob Mann Compliment
Bob Crowley's droll take on the notorious Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Edwards, Edwin & I: The Life and Times of the Cajun Prince as Told by His Conscience recently received this compliment from writer Bob Mann in Baton Rouge: "[The book] captures his personality well, and as for his personal habits,it got him to 93 years of age." Mann published a book this summer Back Rooms and Bayous about a number of distinguished Louisiana politicos he has known. The exhumation of Edwards' body and its cremation at the request of his 3rd wife and widow Trina Edwards a mere 10 days after his burial is a twist that neither Crowley or Mann saw coming.

La. Book Festival Goes online
Oct. 30 - Nov. 14
The last Saturday of this month was one that we along with writers, publishers and booksellers around the state were long awaiting as the wonderful Louisiana Book Festival was scheduled to return after a pandemic hiatus in 2020. Unfortunately, the in-person festival had to be cancelled again, but there will be a virtual one Oct. 30 through Nov. 14 with new content uploaded every weekend. Planned are 30 programs and 80 authors and presenters. Check louisianabookfestival.org for details. As with Jazz Fest fans who have had to fest in place for the second year now, we invite readers to fest in place by visiting a bookstore or online book site and buying that book you've been wanting to read. Don't forget our own tantalizing titles. More details and order info at www.dvillepress.com.
