Commons News

As we head towards the end of 2021 we're reflecting on all that's changed in the pandemic. Things that used to be taken for granted seem new and exciting... or even overwhelming. Things we had never considered at the beginning of 2020 now see normal.

We've also been reflecting on the role of the Commons Library in supporting social change during challenging times. We're proud to share our Annual Report to give you a picture of what we've been up to and what comes next.

The Commons Library team is looking forward to FWD+Organise 2021 on 1-2 December. Australian Progress will run the conference online to gather community organisers and digital campaigners to share practical skills, learn innovative approaches and build lasting collaborations. Check out the agenda and register today!

Commons librarians and volunteers will be in attendance, linking you up with relevant resources and gathering lots of great new content. If you are presenting at FWD+Organise and you would like to publish a related article on the Commons Library let us know

New Resources for Organisers

Here's some of what's new in the Commons, particularly relevant for folks engaged in organising:
Holly Hammond, Commons Library Director, will host a session at FWD+Organise 2021 called Home Grown: Mapping Australian Organising Models as part of a new project to research community organising models in Australia.

Climate Action Now!

COP26 has wrapped up and the gap between what was agreed and what is needed is stark. For ideas for a path forward see A Strategy for Climate Insurgency and Civil Resistance Against Climate Change. The Climate Resistance Handbook has guidance if you're just getting started. Take care of yourself and others with Resources to Cope With Climate Anxiety & Grief

Trans Awareness Week

Now is the perfect time to start a conversation in your organisation about trans positivity and inclusion. Check out Jackie Turner's brand new article Supporting Transgender & Gender Diverse People in Organising & Campaigning.
E.T. Smith, Commons volunteer, has also gathered Quotes from Beyond the Gender Binary to inspire resistance and solidarity.
