Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a number of cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease at Pre-School over the past few weeks. If your child shows any of the signs of having Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease then we ask that you please keep them off Pre-School until they are well again as it is highly infectious.

The first signs of hand, foot and mouth disease can be:

a sore throat
a high temperature
not wanting to eat
After a few days, mouth ulcers and a rash will appear

Please also remember that the main symptoms of COVID-19 in children are:

a high temperature
a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot, for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
a loss or change to sense of smell or taste – this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

If your child displays any of these symptoms they must stay at home until they have had a negative PCR test result.

Any child that has diarrhoea and/or vomiting must stay home from Pre-School until 48 hours after the last occurrence of symptoms.
