1st XV skipper Ollie Brown spins out his trademark pass during the club's first ever match against Hammersmith and Fulham RFC and his 150th game in the black and white.  Congratulations Ollie - the game did not go our way, but you and your team can hold heads high.

Taking stock of what we've got.

Saturday was yet another mixed day at the office for our senior sides.  The 1st went down to just three meaningful attacks in a game wherein they dominated territory and possession (see website for report) and the Vikings were overcome by Worthing.  Our "social" sides, the Warriors and the Barbarians kept the flag flying with good wins against Dorking and Eastleigh respectively while the Vets kept things on an even keel drawing 19-all against Weybridge Vandals.      .

On Sunday our Academy 2nd XV were well beaten by a Chichester Academy team that would have challenged our Academy 1st XV.  Nevertheless, the Farnham boys got a match, played their hearts out and learned something about themselves and the game.  As that game took place, our grounds rang with the shrill cries of our sizeable Girl's Section at training.  Meanwhile our Junior sides were out competing in Waterfall Cup fixtures.

The volume and quality of rugby your club delivers week-in, week-out is mind boggling!

The ball keeps rolling next weekend

Next Saturday we welcome London Irish Wild Geese to Monkton Lane for our next London 1(S) encounter. 3.00pm KO.

The game will be preceded by a special supporters lunch sponsored by our principle partner, Fish Saltus - who are also sponsoring the match ball.

We'll gather at 1.15 pm to be seated at 1.30pm to enjoy steak and kidney pie*, cheese and coffee.  This is afforded by the diner entering a £15 raffle.  To book your seats email chairman@farnhamrugby.org.

*The Phoenix Hospitality team are happy to cater for special dietary requirements, but need 48 hours notice.  If needs be, please make them aware via Gerry at gerry.b@farnhamrugby.org.

On Sunday we have a full Mini Junior schedule while the Falcons open their league season away at Bracknell.

And finally in this round up, don't forget to pick up your fireworks tickets in advance from the club house.  Numbers are limited due to Covid restrictions and they are selling fast.  The clubhouse is open all day over the weekend and on Tues, Weds and Thursday evenings between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

All that rugby I was talking about earlier wouldn't happen without the vast team of volunteer coaches and admins.  Up there with that team is Sam Foskett.  When he's not busy as Chair of the entire Junior Section, he finds time to coach the Girls Under 15 age group.  Cheers Fozzy!
On which subject, while the usual suspects from the senior men's section have put their hands up to help run the Fireworks, Dominic Parker still needs more.

This event is primarily held to entertain the young of the club, so Dom is expecting more people to come forward from the Mini and Junior (Girls and Boys) Sections.

Please don't delay, reach out today.  Email dominicparker@yahoo.com
Tackle!  The Academy 2nd XV came second on Sunday, but showed immense commitment and no little skill.  Well played boys!
Mixed results for U15s in Waterfall Cup

The U15s put out two squads in the second round of the Waterfall Cup.

The As lost a close encounter to Cobham 24/17 with Ben Evans converting a penalty and both tries from George Carr from out wide and Alec Sampson through the middle.

On the adjacent pitch the Bs put countless scores past Cranleigh but was officially recorded as 47/7. The visitors turned up with 11 so all credit to our lads for coming to the the rescue to ensure a full game.  It was a real team performance with everyone playing their part. Highlights included:

  • Tackle of The Day – a couple of good ones in there, Thomas Worsley stopping the peel at the front of the line out, Dougie Black for a text book effort on the touch line and a couple of great cover efforts from Julius operating behind the defensive line and covering the bust
  • Dummy of the Day – Ethan Woods in for his try, lovely finish
  • Running Line of the Day – ‘the Archie Hawkyard Line’ for his try off Julius Uprichard at 9
  • Bottom Of The Ruck King – Ralph Rowbotham, always in the thick of it!
  • Man Of The Match – hat-trick boy Will Hazledon, a great shift throughout

  • Other try scorers were Daniel Hunt (x2), Joe McSweeney, Julius Uprichard and Patrick Sykes who also slotted several kicks
