Career Development / Hiring Events & Opportunities:

  • PVCC Career Services' Office and the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce Rising Professionals Group are hosting an informal, educational networking event to help students/alumni learn about their career fields AND/OR get help with their job search whether geared toward resume or cover letter feedback or a mock interview. These professionals can share information about the following fields: Consulting, Project Management, Government, Non-profit or Healthcare Administration, Digital Marketing, Finance, Financial Services, Human Resources, Legal, Science Start-up, National Security/Intelligence, Technology and Real Estate.  It's easy to sign up for one-on-one assistance on Thursday, October 28 between 3-5pm in PVCC's Bolick Student Center. You can talk with multiple professionals (be sure to sign up on a different time slot to not double-book yourself).  If you can't make it to campus and want to talk virtually, please email careers@pvcc.edu.
  • Wintergreen is hosting a Hiring Event at Stoney Creek Golf Course today, Monday, October 18, 1-5pm. They hire people ages 16+. Positions include a human resources internship, cosmetologist, cooking, dining services (bartenders average $25/hour and servers average $18/hour PLUS benefits!), facilities/land maintenance, ski patrol, attendants for their golf courses, terrain park, tubing, ski lifts, etc. and MORE!
  • Martha Jefferson House is hosting a Stop-in Hiring Event at 1600 Gordon Ave. for both Nurses (CNAs and LPNs) and Dining Services staff on Tuesday, October 19 and October 26, 9am-12noon. Some of their benefits include free parking and free meal, health/dental insurance, paid holidays and  discounted legal services. They have a number of openings (including a part-time Security Officer and Nursing Supervisor). Their dining positions start at $15/hour, CNAs make up to $19/hour and LPNs make up to $32/hour!
  • Virginia Career Works is hosting a virtual Interview Prep Workshop led by Juan Wade on Tuesday, October 19 at 2pm.  On Thursday, October 21 at 1pm, they host their virtual Employer of the Week to connect with local employers.  This week will feature UVA Temps - one of the best (and easiest!) ways to get your foot in the door at UVA.  Their recent featured jobs include Administrative Assistants paying $18/hour, Radiology Techs paying  $21.10-$32.71/hour, and Access Associates or Front Door Screeners or Saliva Screening Ambassadors paying $15/hour.
  • Attention RNs who want to work in Charlottesville, Sentara/MJH is hosting a Virtual  RN Round Table for RNs graduating in May on Wednesday, October 20, 5-6:30pm to give you advice on your resume, cover letter and interview tips.  Register to attend.
  • Attention healthcare professionals who want to work in Richmond, there are two recruiting events this week: Bon Secours Southern VA Medical Center for hiring RNs, 3-6pm, Golden Leaf Commons and HCA Hospitals' John Randolph Medical Center Hiring Event for RNs, PCTs, and Mental Health Technicians on Thursday, Oct. 21 between 5-7pm at The Boathouse at City Point. HCA is offering up to $15,000 sign-on bonus for some positions!  Register in advance by clicking on the name of the hospital.
  • Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hosting an information session about their hiring process for Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) on Friday, October 22, 11:30-1:30 at Northside Library. Pay starts at $16.51/hour with full benefits and a $1000 sign-on bonus. Register in advance.
  • Attention creative people!  There are two events this week that could be of interest to you.  On Thursday, October 21, 3-4pm there is an online Finding Purpose and Pursuing Creativity Meet-up.  On Friday, October 22, 9am-4pm, UVA is hosting a virtual (they may be full for the in-person version at The Graduate Hotel) StART-Up Studio Business Bootcamp for Artists.  Register in advance by clicking on the title of the event.
  • PVCC is hosting an Education & Career Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 19, 6-8pm in the Main Campus Building, 501 College Dr.  Attend the fair and learn about the PVCC transfer process, financial aid, career services & more. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about PVCC’s programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Business, Culinary Arts, Health Sciences, Science, Network2Work, TJACE, and Workforce Services credential programs PLUS representatives from UVA, ODU, MBU and JMU will be participating.  This is not a job fair but a resource fair.

  • Anthology Senior Living is seeking a Director of Engagement that could pay $39-67,000.
  • Attention people who want to help people with disabilities. The Arc of the Piedmont is hiring! They have 2 openings for Senior Direct Support Professionals ($15-17/hour) and a number of entry-level DSP positions in Charlottesville and Crozet ($13-15/hour; overnight floaters make $16/hour). This is a great way to make money if thinking about pursuing a mental health or healthcare career.

Some of the titles include Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, Clean Room Operator (great for people who like to work in a laboratory setting), Database Administrator, Quality Control, Medical Billing Specialist, Accounts Payable or Account Reconciliation (and other accountant positions), Dispatcher/Admin Asst.   • Fulton Bank (near Target) has a $1000 sign-on bonus for their full-time M-F, 8:30-5:00 Sales & Services Specialist position that pays $16.50-$18.50/hour!
  • Park Properties seeks a Payroll Administrator.
