Pastor Mike's Message

A year and a half ago, people were desperate to get online to worship together at least by electronic media. But now people tell me that the service on the screen on Sunday morning has become background music or noise and that any of the following can happen during worship service: dad needs to refill his coffee cup, the kids are making a breakfast feast all over the kitchen, and the dogs are trying to figure out how to get out of the house so they can take care of business, “and Ma in her kerchief and I in my cap had just settled down for a long winter's nap...." --Clement Clarke Moore ("'Twas the Night Before Christmas").

Well, now we know why our ancestors gathered in houses of worship in years past – otherwise, they’d never get out of their pajamas and the condition of the kitchen made Monday morning a nightmare to get ready for school and work.

So, Living Grace is venturing out to gather for in-person worship Sundays at 9:30 am, beginning November 7, 2021 at the new Natelli YMCA.

For the safety of all, masks will be required, and we will limit singing to one verse per song.  I will distribute communion by handing out pre-filled communion cups with sealed lids and with a wafer sealed on top of that.

While we will gather in person, we also recognize that some people can’t or don’t want to gather in person.  So, we are preparing to offer a live streaming of our 9:30 am service.  Watch your email for directions on how to access the online service.

23 Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

Living Grace Church Council Report
 for
 September 27, 2021

Due to the pandemic, the Living Grace Church Council was held remotely via Zoom, on Monday, September 27, 2021. Council members in attendance were Synodical Administrator Pastor Bob Harvey, Pastor Mike McQuaid, Matt Travis and Secretary Chuck Hoffman.  Treasurer Mark Moser was on vacation.

Council is working to reschedule an outdoor worship and family picnic for a Sunday in October. In person worship at the new Urbana Y is planned to start the Sunday after the outdoor worship service.

Confirmation classes have started.  Classes meet on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, September through April, excluding holiday seasons. A Rite of Confirmation is tentatively being  planned for May 2023.

Chat 'N Chew virtual meetings are being held after the virtual Church services to chat about the scriptures assigned for that Sunday, and chew on the morning's sermon. Resources are a two page “Daily Discipleship” which is a free download from ELCA.

We are still searching for a female member of our congregation willing to add some diversity to our currently all male Church Council.

The next Living Grace Council Meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 25, 2021. This meeting will be held remotely via Zoom.
