Scripture of the Week

Romans 5:20-21

Moreover, the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Understanding Grace

Grace can be a complex topic that carries many different meanings and interpretations.  Strongs Bible Dictionary defines grace as graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude): - acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace (-ious), joy liberality, pleasure, thank (-s, -worthy).

Simply put, grace is some type of benefit, gift, or favor.  It is an act, not just an idea. When we respond with gratitude, we are considered gracious.  When we give freely, we extend grace.  When we are a benefit to others, we are a "grace" to them.

We receive the grace of God through believing in God’s actions for us on our behalf.  He gives the gift of salvation and we agree and believe.  Knowing what God has given us freely through faith, we are able to live according to the gift (grace) through a life surrendered to God (holiness). This surrendered life is not possible without His grace that reflects the character, love, and power of God in our lives.

Spiritual gifts (graces) are all to be used by the body for the benefit of the body and the world.  The gifts (graces) of God are revealed by His divine influence on our hearts.  His influence empowers believers to do things that they could not do on their own.  The manifestation of grace in the body looks like the people of God freely serving, giving, and operating under the Divine Influence of the Holy Spirit.

The grace of God is a free gift empowering the believer in extraordinary ways to live holy, give freely, and reveal the character and nature of God in our lives.

Prayer Needs and Updates:

  • Pray for our mission organizations, their families, and their provision.  Celebrate Recovery Nicaragua, Freedom House, Helping Hands Healing Hearts, Idahope Families.
  • Pray for those called to serve in this season with Youth and Kids Ministries.  We are praying for those that have a burden for the youth and a willingness to serve them.
  • Pray for those called to Leadership at HVWC.  We believe that God is raising up mighty men and women of God who will lead others in their pursuit of God.  We know that God is expanding our influence, and those who desire to play a part in the body through leadership should know they are called to it in this season.
We are adopting a mission to Myanmar for Forward Housing to support teen orphans that are abandoned in the social safety net of that society.  We believe God will raise up mighty men and women of God to transform that nation!   Pray on how God wants you to partner this year.
