Welcome to the daily Maths Week newsletter.
Thanks to everyone who tuned into day 1 of Maths Week TV. We were delighted to have more than 10,000 pupils across the island online yesterday morning. If you missed it, you can watch the shows back at the link below.

Primary Teacher Workshop with Steve Sherman
Tuesday 19 October 3.30-4.30pm
Join Steve for a hands-on workshop, introducing teachers to a range of tools and ideas to give your classroom a maths makeover!

Secondary Teacher Workshop with Andrew Jeffrey
Tuesday 19 October 4.30-5.30pm 
In this session, former teacher and inspector Andrew Jeffrey will share his favourite, magical moments to use in a secondary maths classroom. You will learn tricks to amaze and engage your students, covering such topics as probability, Algebra and Fibonacci. All of these have been tried and tested in secondary classrooms. Celebrating 10 years of the Maths Week Maths Eyes Competition
Wednesday 20 October 19.15pm
This session for parents and teachers will celebrate some of the many creative posters that have been submitted over the years and we hope that this can act as a springboard for teachers, parents and children to see how they can use their Maths Eyes in their everyday life. Register here

Rearranging Equations Bookmark Competition with MTU

First year to TY students are invited to design a bookmark that explains how to rearrange equations.

In reply to an inquiry about the animals on his farm, the farmer says:
I only ever keep sheep, goats, and horses. In fact, at the moment they are all sheep bar three, all goats bar four, and all horses bar five.
How many does he have of each animal?

Connected Classrooms Maths Show
Wednesday 20 October 11am
Join international edutainer Steve Sherman, Chief Imagination Officer of livingmaths.com, in this whacky and wild mathemagics show where students will be exposed to a range of interesting maths games and tricks to keep them entertained. This show is for Junior & Senior Infant classes, and also Primary 2 & 3 classes in Northern Ireland. Register here

Maths Teen Scavenger Hunt (for TY/Y12 students)
Thursday 21 October

Join the Maths week team for a fun, collaborative and energetic scavenger hunt that will have you competing with other schools.  The challenges are designed to accommodate all abilities and creativity is highly recommended. All you need is 1 mobile phone for the class and someone that is designated as the director.  You will need to download the Goose Chase App to take part.  Instructions will be emailed to you just before the event commences. Register Here.
Using Storybooks in the Primary Mathematics Classroom
Two primary teachers share their experiences of using storybooks and in particular picture-books in the maths classroom.  Grainne Higgins (Co Offaly) and Edward Fitzgerald (Galway) have successfully used these books in maths class and researched the practice. They have prepared two videos to share their learnings with other teachers.
