John Paul Secondary School
A Door . . . A Path and . . . a Promise

Every time you are asked for a contribution, you have the right to respond:

'Why should I select your charity to support?
Why is its purpose and need greater than many others?
What makes it a better investment than the 10, 30, 60 solicitations I get every year?
What results have you achieved that give me the assurance that what I donate will make a discernable difference?’

The second of three bulletins answers these questions from the perspective of John Paul Secondary School students, teachers and administration.  In our first bulletin, we revealed the extreme poverty of Uganda and how it affects children and young adults who comprise 51 % of its population; we demonstrated how the high educational standard of John Paul School offers opportunity and hope in place of devastation and despair and offered student success stories proving that, indeed, John Paul School IS changing lives.

To continue our story . . . HOW we do this begins with John Paul School’s solid foundation, its aspirational Vision AND our commitment to its Promise.   We hope the following information will answer for you . . .

Why John Paul Secondary School?

From Barren Field to a Thriving Campus

A Door . . . A Path . . . and a Promise began with a visiting missionary’s appeal for a school to serve the poverty-ridden village of Chelekura, Uganda, in East Africa.   For Nancy and Paul Berrigan, that appeal sparked the vision that became a reality.

hope in an entire community.

A Promise to be Kept

The Berrigan’s vision of a “Premier Institution of Learning” has been realized. For its Promise to be kept, it requires generous donors and diligent oversight. That is the responsibility of Friends of John Paul School, a 501 (c) (3) corporation.

School Re-opening Update

The recent plan for school openings set forth by the Ugandan government is to begin early in 2022.   Our welcome-back plans include a new boy’s dorm and a greatly expanded computer lab with its own internet cell tower.

There is a tremendous drive to obtain vaccinations for Uganda’s 43 million population.  The USA has already provided or pledged close to 6 million doses and has been joined by other countries to provide almost 12 million vaccine shots before the end of 2021.
