Dear everyone

I had a very moving weekend of workshops exploring how to utilise our NVC practice to support understanding around Power and Privilege ... and to create change.

As part of this, we explored anger and the meaning of anger in our shared society.. It's interesting to understand the 'feeling rules' we live with. What emotions are acceptable and from whom?  Expressing anger is a way of transgressing the systems of domination we are living in. White people, including myself, have a role to play to access our anger at the injustice and harm that is being caused and that has been caused.

For our anger and rage to mobilise,  we can resource ourselves by being ”angry that,” rather than “angry at.”

I'm angry that so many young people are being killed in London (and other cities)
I'm angry that talking about colonialism and the harm is caused is not at the heart of our public discourse.
I'm angry that the glaciers are sliding into the sea
I'm angry that the trees are being devastated in the Amazon
I'm angry that indigenous people's lands have been taken from them and no reparations have yet come.
I'm angry that so much energy is put into policing, rather than supporting people and really tackling issues.

What about you? What are you 'angry that' ....?

"We are not as coherent or as whole as we think we are. These times are  cartographies of failure. It’s not entirely left to us. Humility finds it feet.  We will need to sit within failure, in the cracks." (Bayo Akomolafe)

Anger, grief, humility, sitting with failure. This is the work of these times. Coming back to our feelings, allowing them, feeling them.

Our next Community Conversation is this Friday (hosted by  Conflict Transformation Weave)

Following on from our last Community conversation about NVC and Social Change (see harvesting here), here is the next Conversation on October 15th 7-9pm UK time. Preparing for COP26 How can your NVC practice support?

COP26 is the best – and according to some, possibly the last – chance for those who govern the world  to take swift and radical action to avert the climate and ecological emergency crisis.

While we are having this conversation to mark this opportunity, this will be a reflective and healing conversation to explore our relationship to this current moment with the following  questions (and the questions and experiences that  you bring. Everybody welcome!)

How can we collectively move our tanker of civilization away from a ‘business as usual’ that is killing life?

How can we be heard by those with political and structural power so they muster the will to change?

How do we believe change happens?

Do you believe that the power lies with the people, or does that feel like an empty slogan?

What is our relationship with the collapse happening around us? How do we live with it?

How can our practice of NVC support and usher in the change that is needed?

What happens to our energy as we turn towards these questions?

"I have wanted to do the NVC Foundation weekend with Ceri for years and finally, finally, I gave myself the gift, and what a gift it was. Ceri is one of those amazing people who understands the importance of the felt experience. Her talent for holding space and allowing everyone to be seen and heard is a skill. Her knowledge of NVC combined with her vulnerability, honesty and openness gives an opportunity for attendees to drop into the work, make real lasting changes in the way they feel, think, act and do, and transform they way they relate to both themselves and those around them. Please do this workshop!" Foundation training
