Platform tool tips and the latest software updates

Hello everyone 👋🏼 We've paused the updates for a few months and considered how this newsletter can better help you.

It's time to start preparing for Christmas sales, so we have sprinkled some valuable tool tips amongst the info so you can get the most out of the platform.
Improving the customer experience

Shopfront

🏷💲 Unit prices is now a default feature.

🛠 Tool Tip

A product's unit price is its price per kilo, mL, item, or other relevant unit. This feature allows customers to compare prices of products, and is good for determining the best value for money (e.g. for different sized variants of a single product). In the example below, the unit price is either $5.00/avocado or $4.00/avocado, depending on whether the customer purchases a single avocado or a bag of 5.

Unit price is automatically calculated using the unit and price fields from the back office Products page. The administrator should ensure these fields are accurate, so that the unit price displays correctly on the shopfront.

If the unit is "item" (i.e. not measured by weight), the back office should look something like this:

Shopfront

🍎👩🏻‍🌾 Shoppers can now toggle between sorting by category or producer in the shopfront.

🎄🛠 Tool Tip

Remember to assign Christmas products to the "Specials" category. In Shop Preferences > Shopfront Category Ordering, set "Specials" as the first category listed in your shopfront during the Christmas period. The products will be displayed in order of category and then in alphabetical order within their category.

📧 Shoppers can now copy and paste emails from the contact tab and footer without the email being reversed. This was a cyber safety precaution that has now been updated.

Orders

❌ The customer can no longer remove the final item from an order and will need to cancel the order instead. This will prevent empty orders and prevent the generation of Error 500 when the administrator attempts to view empty orders.

Invoices

💳 The Payment Method Description at Checkout is now available on invoices.

🛠 Tool Tip

In case a customer needs to use a different payment method to the one selected at checkout, go to Enterprise > Settings > Business Details > Add Customised Text At The End Of Invoices and populate it with full payment details.

🐛 Fixed a bug where taxes on enterprise fees were showing up separately on invoices, making the totals appear incorrect.

Terms & Conditions

✅ Shoppers only need to accept the enterprise Terms and Conditions and Open Food Network's Terms of Service on their first checkout or when one or these two documents change. They no longer need to accept the same terms twice.

Reminder that Open Food Network's Terms of Service have been updated. Please click here to read it.

Reports

🥬 🍞 Product variant SKU is now a field in Xero reports.

🚚 📦 It is now possible to filter an Order Cycle Management report by Shipping Method to get a list of customers for a specific Shipping Method. The Order Cycle Management report now also shows order totals.

🛠 Tool Tip

Wondering which report will give you a specific data field? A summary of the data included in each report can be found in the Data section of the User Guide.

Orders

🐞 We fixed a bug where payments using a deleted Payment Method could not be viewed in the back office. Administrators can now view these payments.

💡 We have updated back office adjustments and the order adjustments tab.

Customer Email & Subscriptions

🔍 📧 It is no longer possible to enter customer records with invalid email addresses. This prevents the subscription placement from failing when an administrator sets up a subscription for a customer with an invalid email address.

We're always here to help
If you'd like more help with setting up a new feature, or you have a question, you can contact us at hello@openfoodnetwork.org.au

If you think something has broken because of this release, please let us know ASAP! We can only investigate the bugs we know about, and the sooner we hear about them the easier it is to pin down their source.

We've also really appreciated those of you who have touched base with us to ask if we can help improve a process or add a feature. We can't always change things immediately, but often we can help! We also use your feedback to prioritise which features get built - if you don't tell us you need it, we don't know to build it!
