Hello <<First Name>>

Sunday 17 October 2021
The twentieth Sunday after Trinity

Today:
09.15 am Holy Communion
There is no live stream this Sunday as we are celebrating Harvest at Saturday's Messy Church (details below.)  We will be showing a pre-recorded video from earlier this year about food poverty, as we think about those in need, even at Harvest time.
We'll be including some photos from Messy Harvest, so the link isn't available at the time of this mailing.  Go to YouTube, and put 'The Eldwick Church' into the search bar to find the video.

We pray for Norma Feather and her pastoral group: Margaret Hartley & Pat Coote.
We ask God's healing for Mollie Brumfitt, Helen Collins, Alice Hill, Steve and Sherryl Jandrell, Kate Lomas, the Marsden family, Stephen & Pamela Matthews, Edna Morrell, Anne Samuel, Marylyn Whelan & Dennis Yeadon.
Prayer requests can be submitted via email to the church office at prayer@eldwickchurch.org.uk

We are celebrating Harvest at Messy Church on Saturday 16 October from 3.30 pm - 5.30 pm.

Food donations on the day will go to the Bingley Food Bank.  Monetary donations will go to the work of Holme Wood's Food Bank.  If you want to make an electronic transfer, please put 'Holme Wood' into the reference field, so it is easily identifiable.  Cheques (payable to the Eldwick Church) can be given or sent c/o Sharron Arnold.  Please indicate on the envelope that this is for Holme Wood.

Sunday services  From now until Advent, our theme is Hard Questions with Hard Answers.

On Sunday 24th October, we’ll look at James and John - a question of importance.  Reading: Mark 10: 35-45.  Please pray for our speaker, Rev Terry Keen.

Church Fellowship will be meeting on Thursday 21st October at 7.00p.m. in the Neville Room for our AGM and a fun evening.  Subs will be due.  Please come along and join us, all are welcome.

Church in the Garden
Thank you for the many messages of how lovely it is to see the garden taking shape. There has even been some harvesting of beetroot, chard and runner beans from the raised beds.

We have been successful in gaining a grant of £2,000 to move us through the next stage.  This will include constructing a level sandstone pathway around the perimeter of the garden; taking out the difficult digging problems we are having by removing the builder’s rubble from the sun ray bed areas; developing the children’s area with a cross shaped willow tunnel & digging out holes and a trench for the late Autumn arrival of four trees and a hedgerow. This stage will give the whole garden structure, and we hope by Winter it will look even more like a garden for people to start to explore, sit in or at least walk around.

There will be an irrigation system so we can harvest as much rain water as possible. The sensory border is now planted up and ready to mature into next year.

However, once this stage is completed, we will have very little money left. We are therefore asking for support as follows:
  • We want to get lots of spring bulbs into the garden to create a lovely display. If you can donate a few bulbs please can you leave them in the bulb box in the entrance areas.
  • We are hoping to put up a few bird boxes and a couple of bat boxes purchased from expert organisations.  These cost £25 to £30 each so you can donate specifically towards these.
  • If you want to donate a monetary gift that would be great and help keep this project moving.
Most of all we want to say thank you to all your encouraging comments, your gardening hours spent in the plot, donations of plants, plant pots, money, water butts, etc, as well as your prayers and your all-round support.  It is very much appreciated.

Big shout out to the Church Craft Group!  The group chooses a Charity each year for whom they raise funds.  The last one was the Pamela Sunter Centre for Down Syndrome, located in Bingley.  Wendy from the Centre has been invited to the group on Wednesday 20 October at 2.00 pm to accept the money raised - which is over £400.
The Pastoral Visitors are meeting on Monday 1st November at 2.00 pm in the Link.

We need an additional 2 pastoral visitors.  If you are interested and want to know more, please get in touch with Margaret Hartley.
Does anyone have any large  plant pots kicking around that I could have for a charity project please? Anything from 2.5 / 3 litre size.
I’m happy to collect or you could leave in church in a bag marked with my name.  Many thanks

Bradford Cathedral is hosting a Saying Goodbye service on Sunday 24 October at 3.30 pm.  Supported by sayinggoodbye.org, it is a service for anyone who has lost a baby during pregnancy, at birth or in early years, whether the loss was recently or many years ago.
The Wolfenden family has posted an update on Ben's GoFundMe page - see below.  For context, pre-pandemic, the family lived in Eldwick and attended Messy Church.  They moved to Switzerland for the chance of a second lung transplant for Ben.

"Hi everyone,
We wanted to send a message to you all, to our friends and the generous people who have supported Ben's journey so far. The money raised ensured our journey here, where Ben has been receiving incredible medical support. We feel that if Ben were to have stayed in the UK and not been given this opportunity, the story would have ended many months ago. But the last 6 months has seen real ups and downs in Ben's health. He is now on non invasive ventilation full time, and fed through the stomach in addition to meals. We have been waiting to hear if another lung transplant is possible. Ben has shown incredible strength throughout all of this, fighting for his family, fighting to be here.

For now, we send our continued love and thanks to the hundreds of people who stepped up to support our young family. We are and will forever be grateful to you. Ben has seen Max turn 7 and Ivy turn 4, both things we didn't think would ever happen.

All our love, Daisy, Ben, and the children x
